So what do we all think.
I know some do not like the idea of a 'beta' getting paid DLC.
For me... I don't care.
The name tag 'beta' or 'early access' can be useful for some things, but for me I don't use it for Ark. Ark has more content, better polish, and has provided me with more hours of fun than 99% of 'triple' full releases. I don't see why it is deserving of any badge that implies it is less than a fantastic game fully worth the £40 price of entry (or indeed any cost below that). Do you think Ark will ever change in how it delivers? It will always be a game of constant additions, you could let it keep the beta label indefinitely, it doesn't make any difference.
It goes back to the price per fun argument I have discussed on these forums before...Ark has more than justified its cost to me, 10-fold. Do I mind them charging £15 for a new map with a whole new setting, new creatures, new items.. no. It is pretty cheap, and different enough to warrant the cost IMO.
I think the labels can be deceptive. I am not too interested in their reasons for charging us for this (game devs have to eat too you know...), as long as the content keeps coming, I will gladly front the cost of this one. If they release another in 6 months that gives me something new and exciting then too, I will probably jump on that too! It is when they charge too much, deliver too little, or otherwise try to rip me off that I change my mind (EA...). Ark has not done that yet.
What do you guys think?
Totally on the same page as you man, I've spent heaps on AAA games that I could never boast about my 600+ hours in!
I love it, I'll be getting the DLC, and I'll be enjoying the view of the sandstorm from my window overlooking an oasis I bet there is to find :D
PS: I bought Ark at £12, and this DLC at £15 keeps Ark under the price of even a cheap release, and it's just so packed of experiences, and memories already, beta tag or not.
Can't wait to see what else they turn out. Can anyone say Tech tier in Space??? :D :woot2:
Personally i am more then happy to pay this for a game that i have 300+ hours in, its just like buying the new map for arma in my option. Yes this game is in early access but have you seen a game that looked this beautiufl and play this well ? i haven't really and this game has had its grip and still does in some cases on so many of our members.
This new map doesn't look like the ark we know as the description say this is more of a true survival and it will be harder than the last one and this interests me a lot because i feel like teamwork might be more key. I am more then happy to pay for this and would love to play this. the center map was very beautiful was just a new map with same old dinoes and it wasn't to much harder to survive, the higher level dino's are a must because it made the dinos feel more scary and we had to work together more to kill them and tame them. I didn't put many hours in the center map due to me feeling like it was the same old ark on a new beautiufl map. I know people will say its the same ark on a desert map but it look so beautiful and like i said the survival aspect really intrigues me, the fact that we dont have water everywhere looks to be a very good mechanic.
I've played 200 hours of Ark and I feel it has repaid my investment. I've seen pre-alphas ask for more money than Ark and the devs in Ark are kings among men, I love their approach. I'm in.
Edit: Gotta have a ferret as a pet. Keep the Northerners happy!

so just tried the map out on single player..... i need this in my life its so beautiful and soooo hard haha. the new dinos looks awesome but that desert is so deadly. my first spawn was fun as i spawned in front of two raptors lol. I won't say much about the new map yet because i want people to experience it but by god its good
I'm not disagreeing that ark isnt value for money and yeah without a doubt I've had more playtime out of it that other games. So yeah quite happy buying dlc but just thought they'd get a "finished" product before releasing more?

You realise even at £30 that is 3p an hour :D brilliant.
This might be the way for a small but committed developer to go. Keep a game in development and continuously improve and bug fix, but periodically add a larger paid update. If an early access game actually works and is playable then what Ark are doing seems fine. At some point they should drop the early access tag and just call it a game, and maybe that point has already come if it's already a stable game. You could argue that Arma and Kerbal have used this approach with the exception of dropping or not using the 'early access' label.
I still worry that with 'Early Access' Valve have created a platform ripe for abuse and that they don't appear to be interested in policing the behaviour of the companies that use it. Ark clearly isn't on of them.

I'm sure Pen just stays logged in and harvests meat from his corpses for the tribe....
Looks good but I'm hoping to spend a but more time in SC so I'll probably ignore this one for a bit.

Agree with you smilo. I think Ark will actually ditch the tag one day, and there will be a story of sorts from what I can tell. But in the meantime yep I have no issue with this model. Needing some cash influx every now and then is understandable - it's up to them to make it worthwhile and not create a huge split between haves and have nots. Only if they end up doing that could there be a problem.
Re scorched earth and dMw, as soon as we have a plan in place we will let you guys know :) I am sure we will be exploring the desert naked together soon (that ones for you rogue).
I agree with you Chaosphere. I have played 411 hours in this game, so well worth the money. Last time I played this game was on 30-12-2015 though. But somehow it feels wrong to get a paid dlc on a beta or early access game. It means they spend time on dlc instead of the unfinished original game.
You could also say that some triple A games also sell dlc before the game is actually where it's supposed to be (bf4 is an example), but that doesn't make it right.

Saw this also and got it.
If you have continued interest in this game then please consider purchasing this.
At some stage it's *highly* likely we'll be playing this regularly even if we don't fully migrate to it.
