Title: Real Cider #8
Post by: TeaLeaf on September 23, 2016, 06:46:36 AM
Over the next two weeks we'll be posting up the nine sponsored real ales or real ciders which will appear at the LAN for your enjoyment at a scrumptious £1.50 per pint.  This is the penultimate post in the series.

This is the third and final of our sponsored ciders, which leaves us with just one more real ale to announce tomorrow!

Farmhouse Draught Dry by Sheppy's

Sponsored by: Penfold & TeaLeaf
Thank you Penfold & TeaLeaf!

Sheppy's Farmhouse Draught Dry is a traditional scrumpy cider and this year marks Sheppy's 200th year of scrumpy production.  Scrumpy is the old country name given to the natural, unpasteurised cider which every Somerset farmer made over the centuries for himself and for his farm hands to take to the fields in their wooden firkins.

Sheppy’s Farmhouse Draught Dry scrumpy cider is made from a variety of home-grown apples from 55 acres on the Sheppy farm just outside Taunton.  The pressed juice is then fermented in oak barrels to about 6% ABV.

It's best I declare a personal interest in this one: I've been buying Sheppy's scrumpy for about 28 years, ever since the in-laws moved down to Taunton - that's when I found out that Sheppy's is only half a mile away from their home, so each time we visit I stock up on their Farmhouse Draught scrumpy!    It's firkin lurverly!

Nice choice gents, thanks. 6% getting near my Cider headache threshold but I promise I'll make all effort to test every last beverage.

That strangely comforting noise you may be hearing, is Blunt purring in appreciation.

Ale kegs are 68-70 pints approx depending on spillage, the cider kegs are smaller and about 36 pints each.
