Title: Spectrum

This is very much IMHO but.....

With 2.6.1 the RSI Spectrum feature has gone live. While there is currently little or no activity surrounding Star Citizen, and I doubt there will be until alpha 3.0 and or Squadron 42 launches I'm of the opinion that we should be making sure that we don't use, or encourage the use of Spectrum for anything dMw Org related. While it's still and early build and not very feature rich, there's still nothing that Spectrum does that this forum doesn't. We've always worked hard to make the forum the focus and central hub of all things dMw i.e. no real support for Facebook pages, etc.

Splitting activity between two platforms doesn't sound like a good move and we should IMHO be making sure that we keep things 'in house'. The alternative would be to do everything inside Spectrum which may work fine but would leave the dMw forums, Teamspeak etc devoid of Star Citizen activity.

Words of wisdom for sure. I think for in game operations fine but even when fully released we should avoid any of our main discussion content or community info being in any games communication module.

I agree, and I can see the benefit of keeping our main presence here, however, I feel that the time will come when a decision will have to be made to jump one way or the other, as there will be benefits to using Spectrum to some degree, and drawbacks to not using it.

Perhaps, as time goes by, a logical split of duties between the two platforms will emerge, with some topics/usage making more sense to keep in-game rather than here, and vice versa.

I believe that the in-game comms will become a 'must have' feature in time, and have already posted the idea to CIG that there be some sort of plugin for third party comms such as TeamSpeak and Ventrilo that acts as a bridge into Spectrum which, at the very least, allows player's presence in-game to show up in the TeamSpeak channels list, perhaps with some crossover abilities such as pokes or perhaps even whispers, etc.

Without such a bridge, orgs will be forced to go either fully third party or fully Spectrum for voice comms, as trying to run both would be a nightmare I think.  Using Spectrum will unify voice interaction between orgs and make multi-org operations easier to organise.  Not using Spectrum would effectively make an org deaf and dumb in the game world, and while not making inter-org communications impossible, would certainly make it harder.

It's going to be a tough decision in the end, I fear.
