Big update is that we now have a road map for version3.0 which is when we hope Star Citizen actually becomes a game, and that date is 'planned for 29th June 2017'.  Far too many things to list so here's a link

I'm looking forward to being able to land on a planet and look around. I think a lot of the PR videos in the last 12 months have had that content front and centre so to finally have something to try out will be exciting. I'm not going to get over excited about there being a game to play quite yet. Plus the longer Star Citizen take, the better it will be *and* the more months/ years I get to keep my Elite Dangerous playing buddies around for company! Take all the time in the world CIG!

Wow, plenty of cool news in there, I'm sure everything has their favorite item to look forward to.

As a tech nerd I notice that one item is conspicuously missing from the roadmap - Vulkan rework.

QuoteAs a result our current intention is to only support Vulkan and eventually drop support for DX11 as this shouldn't effect any of our backers.

Agree with this Albert!

Plus, I now finally have a date to seriously look at replacing my aging gaming rig as currently SC is pretty much unplayable on mine.

Haha.... same here.... my main Rig runs it ok, but i''m playing more and more on my laptop nowadays, it's a Scan 3XS, i7/880m/8gb, nice spec really, but SC is only just playable, i'm sure it will actually improve as they optimise it more with version 3.0, but there's nothing like a good excuse to buy myself a new shiny Scan 3XS i7/1080/16gb ram laptop for SC :woot2:

Yep lot's of interesting news. By 'game' I'm meaning there is supposed to be persistence i.e. your ship damage states, possessions, location etc stay as is between sessions. So like a 'normal' game the stuff you do may start to have some relevance over the longer term.

I watched Ben Lesnick (community manager) mention on a YouTube vid that the web based store is also not long for this world. At some point when the economy is up and running the ability to by ships for cash on the store page will end. The only way to acquire news ships will be in game either for UEC. There is going to be a way to purchase a certain amount of UEC each month for cash but there will be a fixed upper limit ($25 -30 has been muted). Alpha and Beta wipes will not wipe ships bought in game apparently so they will have to have the economy sorted first. Otherwise some bright spark will find a bug that allows them to generate masses of UEC and buy fleets of Javelins etc.

But when there is persistence and economy then for me there will be a game I'd be willing to play properly rather than currently just dropping in and flying about a bit.

Not great on mine either but hopefully see some performance improvements in 3.0 as well :D

Seems to be a fair list of performance related issues already addressed :woot2:

I think 90% of the performance issues are related to netcode anyway, which is a big thing for the 3.0 release. There are a bunch of 'solo mode' mods out there which allow you to experience the game without the 'net' elements getting in the way. Most people have seen a 200-300% increase in FPS.

I'm interested in seeing just how far they will go with this in 3.0.  I'm hopeful that if you leave a ship on Yela, it's still there if you log back in the following day (if it hasn't been found and nicked, of course!).  Not really sure how they're going to do this, as the PU in 3.0 won't be big enough to support the whole community, so there will still be instancing present, which means that the server will need to know which instance you were last in and spool that up.  I think the long-term plan is to have everyone in the one PU, and maybe there will be some element of 'traffic control' to stop POIs, e.g. Port Olisar, becoming overcrowded and hence overloaded.

The first iteration of the economy will be in 3.0, but I don't think it will include ships (although I could be wrong - and hope that I am).  From what I can gather, the current alpha UEC (aUEC) will still be the in-game currency that you receive for missions and use for buying/selling stuff.  Any ships/items bought with aUEC will be subject to wipes, however those bought with UEC (i.e. UEC you've bought with real money) won't.

Gameplay-wise, from the notes, it looks like we will have 3 moons to land on, plus Delamar (with Levski), outposts and derelict ships and debris fields to find and explore, missions and mission arcs, cargo, insurance, refuelling and new ships/ground vehicles.  Exciting stuff!

New to this forum (the SC part of the site) thought I would say Hi.

Very excited to finally get a schedule on the 3.0!!!

I liked the video they had explaining the complexity involved in managing all the different teams - looks like they are finally getting a handle on it though and things will hopefully move forward quicker!

I have a Starfarer thats itching to go for a ride and ferry some illegal cargo!

Welcome!  If you're not already in it, don't forget to put in an application to the DMW org:

About have no ships economy in 3.0 surely lack of removes their revenue stream and given that's essential to future development not to mention they already know how to sell items. I'd expect it to be present no?

On the topic of PCs, my @)@&;$;&ing PC blue screened again when I removed my Oculus HDMI cable during boot. It did the same after plugging in a USB 3 hub already twice and I had to reinstall windows. I may have a faulty part of my motherboard. Still I can't believe  that I can't recover whatever files got corrupted. All repair or boot correction options fail. I might just get a new mobo, ram, CPU and OS SSD. Frustrating.
