Title: The Reboot
Post by: Penfold on April 21, 2017, 12:21:54 AM
I saw the server was up online so logged on. My bad, I thought we were launching tomorrow night.

Wow you've been busy lol.

Did everyone manage to start on herby island? I got myself there and have started. I did try swimming a few times but just couldn't make it so flew there then started from scratch.

I also 'killed' the titan as frankly it's a joke having it spawn there. Exec decision on my part.

Did someone create a clan? if so who? I would like to join as obviously can't build anywhere near existing places.

And ofcourse I'll give you the necessary powers as soon as I see you online Pennie :D

And busy we were indeed! Great start, and that load time and fps is just such a godsend after the long haul with p+ :yahoo:

South 3 spawn. We have rafts to move over if no admin is online. We have some tips to level up faster in that area.
If they are already in the clan they can fast travel from our little shack towards herbivore island.

By the way, if you use a raft near herbivore, watch out for the Leedsichtys around (big *ss fish).

The Leedsichthys is passive toward most things with the exception of rafts. They will stop at nothing to take down any raft in open water. Their sheer mass gives them the power to wreak havoc on even the best protected raft. When a raft is encountered the Leedsichthys will charge at full speed smashing the raft to bits by dealing direct damage to the raft itself even when the raft is fully encased in stone or even metal. Boaters beware the Leedsichthys are everywhere and aggressively out for your watercraft.

Dude.... I wish I read that earlier!

I just had one of the rafts chomped nearly to destruction like literally 5% HP left, and I didnt even get a screenshot!!!
WOW IT IS HUGE, the Fish... I didn't "use" it, but it still filled my inventory with Raw Prime Fish just from being a mouthful for it.

So be careful out there dudes :D

I walked from my spawn point and saw the rafts. I couldn't use them as I wasn't in the clan so I admin'ed myself over and started thereon.

I couldn't build near anyone on herbi due to not being in a clan so I'll grab you hopefully tonight Sithy.

I saw Whitey had a house on the mainland, also seen Sithy, OB and DuV. Anyone else back on?

I'll be on tonight from 7ish

This isn't quite how it happened my friend.

I said I found the hallowed creature and, for the second time this week, I thought someone in your household was having puppies you were so excited ......

Your wondrous child-like enthusiasm was just so endearing I had to let up its location for you to tame it rather than claim for my own.

Just try not to get it killed

Well guys its official, in 4 chomps, the Siths Paddler Extreme was destroyed to thin air by the Leeds sea fish monster. Dropping me my bear pelican and horse on a glacier in the utmost northern bit of the map. I was smart enough to keep a spare house on my horse, which is now unfolded after a long trek around the ice blocks to land on a nearby cliff. I didnt expect this morning to go anything like that :(

Scissor-hands
Pegomastax
Billy Bremner (super-aggressive Leeds monster)

Quote from: DuVeL;422921Want me to speed up me moving my boat and a few bears over?

It'd be optimal, I'm on the far northwestern edge, just past the Kairuku glacier, and there is no coast, I thought that the ice flows would stop the leeds but they don't, so there is literally nowhere safe to park a ship on this side...
In the meantime I'm going to try tame some wolves like I said, and measure the overall survival needs for the cold lol :D

I took a big hit from it too this afternoon  .... The love boat went down with all hands and our best bear. In a mad dash back with sharks I managed to get the Radar love boat into shallow water with 5% health. The sharks did not :(

Add that to me loosing the dolphin this morning on an oil run... Its been an expensive day sorry chaps

On to some positive news on Ark:

Yesterday evening Rogue was wandering the river along side the base when in the distance the shape of a weird looking, almost vicious thing appeared.
Knowing the area all to well, he moved towards it slowly as anything could jump at him or knock him of his trusty bear.

Then it appeard, an ovis, looking with its lovely eyes towards Rogue.
Rogue shouted on TS for assistence as he was unwary if he was threatend or not. He send DuVeL off to get some special cake, because as we all know, sheep like cake.
After an escord with 2 bears we got it back save in our little homestead where it receives alot of haircuts from Rogue.

WOW! Nice one dudes!!
Jewels helped me kill a lvl 104 female Thylocaleo (TreeClimbingCat from now on) but our second attempt saw the taming of a lvl 44 fem, they are VERY tanky, and with some levels I think they might challenge the bears as overall usefull creatures!

5400 hp

Yeah, Titan in our base.

I had to kite it out but it killed the meggie in the process (along with one of Gortex's ballistae and several walls).

Last time I saw it, it was swimming off into the deep blue.

We now have a replacement Meggie.

Quote from: DuVeL;423297BTW, I'm already up to lvl 80 since yesterday as off the note-levelling, you've just got to work a bit harder Pen ;)

I levelled my character to LVl 90 or thereabouts on The Center so we could have giga saddles but it was a real slog and involved serious grinding. Not sure I can be bothered to do that again tbh :)

It'd be nice to get to scuba which I'll probably do but the thought of trying to get a giant squid saddle at lvl 91 or a giga at lvl 96 is just too grindy atm given it's the 3rd or 4th time of levelling.

Nps. Like I said, I'm not contributing much to the taming/breeding/kibble side of things so we're all spreading the love and the workload.

Looking at the next tranche of engrams  there's nothing really worthwhile until the giga saddle at 96 and the quetz platform at 97. That may take a while.

If anyone wants anything else from the ENGRAM LIST (http://ark.gamepedia.com/Engrams) then do shout. Between DuVeL and myself we have unlocked most things up to lvl 90 and I'm happy to mindwipe if needed but still have a coupla thousand points free.

Don't forget we have aquatics available if you want to go swimming. Recommend the Basilasaurus as the dino of choice and we have a couple of high levels which can be bred out.

In my house there's a vault opposite the fabricator which is stuffed with aquatic animal (and other) saddles as well as scuba gear (thanks to Duv for his polymer runs) as needed.

Still grinding........

So I'm pushing on with the grinding as I think we really need to use Gigas for the higher-end bosses.

Big mistake looking at the levels and the XP needed. Each level now is like going from 1-80 again. The broth is helping so please keep as many rhino horns as you can.

I anticipate about a week of serious grinding so we should start to see about taming the gigas out there in the wild. At least spotting them and getting their levels would be a start.

I have three chests full of narcotics (wooden ones by dung beetles and the nearest vault) if anyone needs tranqs or arrows.

I think I'm getting there. Using the grinder method it's not that onerous - just spend time collecting the wood then let the grinder work away and just reset after each 1000 stack. So I'll plug away at this in the daytimes whilst working and hopefully it'll only be a day or two. It's better doing it this way as opposed to wasting good co-operative game play at night.

If we could bump the giga hunt to near the top of the list please.  sex, level and co-ordinates would be great please if you don't want to tame it yourself.

I'll do some searching around the cold zone tonight while getting those rhino horns. I also know the location of one, probably two Giga's. As mentioned I'll keep writing down the Alpha locations in the water aswell.

Question from my side though, are we bringing back the normal Alpha's also? If so when? As I might need to relocate some dino's or make a larger area or a metal gate as the Alpha's spawn quit often around my base.

As said Pen, if you need any resource that we can help you with, just give a shout. This also counts for others ofcourse.

I'm still looking to find lvl 150 bears, no luck yet though. Also if people make new bears, remember the highest levels are still in my base which can be used for breeding (feel free to use the kibble but if it runs out then let me know please).

A 140 - really! Wowsers that's seriously worth contemplating chaps.

In the 2000 hours I've played this game that's by far the highest Giga I've ever seen. I had presumed they don't spawn at such a high level (similar to the Plesiosaur) so stand corrected. Apologies. ALl the previously tamed ones were relatively low level.

As OB would say: "It's not a 150! Kill it"

So far 1 female bear 150 has been found and tamed, she's currently staying at my base (BigMommaBear, please do not use the levels available from it, keep it with the base-stats).

@Pen, more rhino horns available at my base (around 20). I've made a dash around the waters yesterday, +31 pearls and marked the location of 2 Alpha Mosa's (make this a group thing on killing them?).

Storymode:
'T was a not so sunny Sunday, people were walking and imprinting on a Giga or 2, when a Ark-survivor was wandering about what to do that afternoon. The master grinder called Penfold was still on the hunt for more rhino horns but also for black pearls. He had found already some rhino horns which took up quit a bit of his time but he was getting some drops inbetween and killing penguins, a bit for fun but also for the organic polymer.

After going back to his own little hut on the hill he decided to fast travel towards the master grinders base where he had his Basilosaurus stationed. He got Scuba gear and other necessities from the vault, almost forgetting to cook up some meat and went over to his Basilosaurus.
He got on, moved towards the gate area, still being astounted by the many gates that were placed there, just for the safety of the tamed Megalodons, Basilosaurus, Plesiosaurus, Mosasaurus and Ichtyosaurus.
A few waterdinos were still missing, like the manta, he was still thinking of getting one as the waterscooter used to be alot of fun.
While thinking of this he opend one of the gates and saw something in the distance, he got off the Basil, got the spyglass from his pocket and stared in the distance.

A large Alpha Megalodon had appeard from the depths of the ocean, just outside the heavily fortified aquatic base. Were the stone fortifications enough to hold out the Alpha Megalodon? He didn't knew so decided to risk his own life to lure away the monstrosity slightly further from the base.
He called out on Tribal Speak if there were any available Tribe members. He quickly assembled JAS - "the T-rex lovebreader" and Sneaky - "helping hand of the tribe" as Whitey - "The Master builder" was still walking, hugging and stuffing kibble in some Giga's.

Would 3 Basilosaurus do the job? They dind't knew as they never encounterd a Alpha Megalodon before.
They've heard the tales of Milli - "Just gate it in and it's a base" that he took down one but he wasn't on Tribal Speak.
All ready and fired up they went outside the aquatic base. The glow of the Alpha Megalodon was just outside the base, terrifyingly closeby! Ready to attack they stormed out but getting close they found the fishy belly up. Did it die in fear off the Tribemembers? Did it get killed by jellyfish? Or did it get to close and suffocate? Another one of the mysteries of the game called Ark.

Slightly disappointed they took off the Megalodons fins, 2 of them. DuVeL wanted to use them for shark fin soup (https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook:Shark_Fin_Soup) but tribemeber JAS said he could use them to access the Tek Cave and took them with him.

So ends the tale of the "Alpha Megalodon".

Although, not to worry too much if you want to lvl up yourself. Looking at Riot Armour it would be useful for bosses (addition 20% over flak or thereabouts) but it is heavy. Good for topor reduction though.

I can now make Quetz Platforms if anyone wants one.

If you need pearls for broth then let you're free to take some obviously.

How to tame a lvl 140 Giga:

Step 1:

Let it start eating your tribe members base.

Step 2:

Get another tribe member to annoy the Giga and await the tribe members death.
This step can be skipped but where is the fun in this?

Step 3:

If said tribe member isn't dead yet, let the Giga try and  kill him still so you can start shooting it from the other side.
You are save and well, who knows how your tribemember is doing...

Step 4:

Tribemember still not dead, unlucky! The good thing is, you got the Giga down, it's trying to hide, we know Giga's and T-rex's like to hide behind things.
This one was trying to hide behind a rock.

Step 5:
You've got it, well done. Good group effort, you're tribemember didn't die (unfortunatly) but wayhey, a level 205 Giga tamed.

How to tame a Troodon:

Whitey - "The Master builder" has sort of perfected his Troodon :taz:taming.

Ingredients:
-Lots and lots of guts (yours and the newly born animals :dummy: you want to sacrifice)
-1 taming boat or similar structure;
-Nighttime;
-A shield;
-Add a little bit of honey to season things a bit, especially the newly born;
-1 Tribemember who's nuts and is willing to die for the cause (in other words, me).

Step 1: Find a decent level Troodon :taz:
Step 2: Ask a friendly tribemember if you can use his tamingboat and "experience" of luring creatures in said tamingboat.
Step 3: Let tribemember shoot the Troodon with a dart and see him run for his life towards the tamingboat. Hopefully he'll get out in time, otherwise he dead.
Step 4: If the Troodon is in the boat, enjoy sailing a bit over the lovely rivers of Ark back towards a base :racing:. Preferably the tribemembers one because if things get messed up, better do it at his base.
Step 5: Start breeding up the last part of the newly borns :dummy: you want to hatch (T-rex or Spino or something similar).
Step 6: Make the newly born follow you into the taming boat and make sure you have your shield equipped to dodge the attacks of the Troodon
Step 7: Get into a corner with the newly born next to you, drop a bit of honey so the Troodon might attack. :learn:
Step 7a: If the Troodon doesn't attack, ask the tribemember to drop some honey and or his/her personality to help out by standing infront of the newly born. :byesad:
Step 8: If it works, rince and repeat with the newly borns untill the Troodon is tamed. :D:clap::thumbsup::coolio::cheers:

Anyway, good fun Whitey, it got a little bit to late but we managed to get the other one done also.
Now lets start breeding Troodons and maybe try and find a higher one?:g:

No probs. TBH I think I was doing it a little as well.

Yes, really exciting getting to a stage never before achieved. Look forward to next Sunday when we can start making stuff.

This week I'll logon as much as possible to renew the Rex pack. If I'm struggling with time I'll put the eggs in the fridge. They're not going to be imprinted so raising isn't really an issue. I know Duv has been collecting artifacts and Oldie has done the coding so we'll have a bash next week.

ALL TO DO PLEASE WHERE POSS: We may have a go at the Monkey for which guns are needed. JAS has suggested the fabricated pistol as it has a good DPS - although the choice is yours. Please log on if you can, go to metal mountain and make one (using blueprint) with a couple hundred ammo.

Jas, where are you getting your DPS Info from? It'd be good to see.

I know Oldie/Sulky are going Longnecks which are great from a single shot but I appreciate less so on a DPS.

The fabricated pistol is a lot less but fast rate of fire so it's all a balancing act.

Why aren't we going with Fabricated Sniper Rifles for example? Looks like a primitive one will outperform a fabricated pistol even with it's addedd %age. if guns also only do 70% damage to animals then we're almost better just using the ascendant or mastercraft compound bow or even crossbows ??

You have more experience with this from WoW so help would be appreciated.

This is the raw damage chart which doesn't account for rate of fire and therefore DPS. It also doesn't account for our blueprinted boosted weapons.

If you are using the cold metal base at blue then please turn off the generator before you leave.  I'm really finding it hard to keep everything in fuel as it is being used at a much faster rate that it used to be.

Seems Gas usage has been doubled 2/hour and an increased crafting cost  "this was a Nerf for single player that made its way into multiplayer"

Unclear if it will be changed back in the future quite a few complaints

To bad we lost JAS straight away after him trying to catch a rock and toss it back to the monkey. Lateron we lost Sith because he was trying to fool around with the dinos again.

Right, overall damage on the monkey was great, it was going down really quick.

Things for the to do list though:
-Get more black pearls/cementing paste and other materials for more Tek Gear.
-A list of all the cave artifacts please and I'll try and sort them if I can do them solo (unless anyone wants to join).
-I'd like to do the tough underwatercave sometime as it's the only cave we don't have an artifact off yet.
-We need to do the bosses again for those who didn't receive the death messages and Tek unlocks for the bosses we did so far because they (unfortunatly) died.

Anyway, good fun again tonight!
