Just to make sure people are aware, we are running a Bad Company 2 server during the LAN. There will be a time slot where we will try to all jump on the server, and it will be available throughout for people to use. It will remain available for a couple of weeks after the LAN too.
We played this game quite a lot in the past. We thought we would give it a go here but if there are issues it isn't something that has to come back to future LANs.
The game can be picked up for less than £5 online. Please make sure you have a legitimate copy if you wish to join us during the event.

I bought a copy. I played a lot of BF2 and BF2142 so should be able to hold my own.

This is a great older game though.. before EA totally gutted the franchise.. so I am looking forward to a few games :)

Do we have a date for the server coming on get? Was just thinking about the unlocks that people may or may not have. Such as the red dot and the 4x as well as some guns. For example, the AEK 971 (unlocked at Assault experience 0) and the M16A4 (unlocked at Assault experience 47,000). Would be nice for people to have equal chances.
It will be up maybe a week or two before the LAN but no longer than that, as we are renting a server for a month only.
The gameplay at the LAN will be very chilled with no competition made from the game. If people want to jump onto other servers beforehand to get unlocks then they are more than welcome to, but I don't think this is necessary to have a laugh at the LAN with it!
That said, I will post when we have the server sorted, and we will try to get a night going beforehand I am sure for a test run!
Given my habit of never deleting any of my drives and storing them in a box somewhere, there's probably a local user directory with saves on it from the original game. but I can't be arsed looking for it.
Don't think it matters mate, as long as you can get in a game at the LAN all is good :)
Again, just watch out for TwoBad and his C4.

Important Bad Company 2 LAN Information!
BC2 uses a system of unlocks for gear. To get the better gear (including things like sights for your guns And C4!) you must earn XP and rank up.
Some of you will have soldiers from a bygone age that you can log into (they are saved in EA's cloud). Others will have to create new soldiers at level 1 with no unlocks!
We don't want to restrict things at the LAN, as some of the unlockable gear is fun to play with (did I mention the C4 already?). This means that whatever unlocks you arrive at the LAN with, you will be able to use.
Fear Not, new soldiers! There are public servers in game that offer 15x XP boosts - on which it can take around only an hour to FULLY LEVEL a class of soldier.
THIS SATURDAY from 7pm we will be jumping on Bad Company 2 together! We will be playing on these 15x XP servers! New soldiers, playing here for only a short period will help you unlock new gear fast, at the very least giving you some basic stuff like gun sights for our LAN festivities!
So join us THIS SATURDAY AT 7PM ONWARDS on BC2, new and old soldiers, to warm up for the LAN and unlock yourself some shiny new gear with which to smite your fellow dMw-ers come the LAN :boxing:

I'd just thought I'd mention that staying on one class would only unlock all the weapons for that class as well as the weapons that you receive from ranking up. This means that if you want to unlock ALL weapons you will need to play each class until you have unlocked all the weapons for that class. On the 15 times XP servers, this should not take too long at all.

Nice one puff. Having hopped on for 5 mins the other day I have to say the game still plays really Well! This should be a good bit of fun for the LAN. It can always make another return if people enjoy it!

Your soldier should be stored to the cloud, when you load the game up it will make you log in to your EA account (I had to reset my password).
As for the game itself assuming you have it on steam you would just need to shove it into the steamapps folder and steam should find it!

I just logged in on Origin and it listed the different characters I had in the game and I found one with a level other than 1.

I just checked and my unlocks for the I modded version didn't come across to Vietnam. I could be missing something though. Will we be running an XP mod for the Lan? It's not a problem like. Fun game anyway. I just want access to my defib ;)

There are very few weapons in the Vietnam. Most people probably won't have Vietnam anyway so it shouldn't be an issue. Normally, if you unlock stuff in the standard game, it won't unlock it in Vietnam however it works the other way... I think. Either way, the vanilla game is the priority I guess.

Yes good fun tonight cheers all. We had over 15 dMw playing on a server and managed to fill it.
For those asking for Vietnam at the LAN, we don't want to force this as I guarantee someone will not have it and it will cause problems / delays on the night. If the BC2 goes down well we can look into Vietnam for future events!
