Title: Ping/Connection issues while streaming on twitch
Post by: TheDvEight on June 26, 2018, 05:25:46 PM
Hi all,

Just wanting some advice on the following, When I stream on twitch and play rainbow six siege my game becomes almost unplayable and is like I'm gaming again on a dial up connection. I get the following in game symbols;

Now I've just upgraded my internet connection with Virgin media to their 100meg line and I've yet to have any other issues as mentioned above with other games no I'm not sure what to do.

:)

Streaming only effects your upload, the game also uses upload to send your data to the server.

Now I’m pretty sure the vivid 100 is 6mb upload rate so.......

In your OBS settings what bitrate and resolution/FPS are you using?

Yep Virgin an average of 6 mB, so sometimes it will be less.... which is fairly poor. 1080p streaming can use up to 6 mB and 4K can bump that to 25mB. I'm no expert but it might be that you just don't have enough bandwidth. Virgin has always been about the download speed as most of their customers don't upload. With the increase in cloud based storage, services that might change if enough of their customers complain.

Yeah I get between 5-6 upload I've set the obs bitrate to 5500 RES 1920 x 1080

5500 is huge.

I would also consider your viewers. I for one would not want to stream 1080p 60 FPS content from Twitch.. I run Twitch in only part of the screen, why does it need to be 1080p? No one is viewing you full screen, even with that pretty mug mate :flirty:

I would suggest 720p, 60 FPS, and a bitrate closer to 2-3000.

It means I watch twitch streams in say 1/4 of the screen and do other stuff with the other 3/4...

ok so, dd.

with cable (virgin media) you cannot almost max the connection without issues - 5.5mbit upload is far too much for a 6mbit connection without expecting major issues.

your bitrate should be 3000/3500(50-60% of max) VERY tops. are you running 60fps?

Yes, but what Chaos is saying is that he rarely watches streams full screen so no need for the huge bitrate.

You can't stream at 5500 CBR with your connection, You'll have to lower it to 3000-3500 tops. and as suggested above stream at 720p 60FPS.

Yeah I'm not talking about what you as a streamer can do with it, I'm talking about how people actually watch content on Twitch. People are less likely to watch when your stream uses loads of their bandwidth and stops then doing other things at the same time. That, and there aren't many people wanting to watch us game full screen in crisp HD mate :roflmao:

Go with the settings Mike, pesteh and I have suggested... Bit rate 3000 and set it to 720p 60 FPS, that'd be my advice.

Thanks Choas, Mike, Smilo & Pnuts problem solved,  tested it at 2500 bitrate outputting at 1280x720 @ 30fps no issues upped the bit rate to 3500 no issues so will leave it at that setting, looking at the video the quality is great for what I need it to be so that's awesome :)

Hi Sneaky I've sorted this now with a combo of dropping the bitrate and increasing my internet speed cheers
