So I've been visited by the upgrade fairy due to my struggling MSI laptop finally giving up on me (which is a bit  but mostly :thumb: as I now get to do the long-awaited upgrade).
Gaming is out until my new rig arrives so kindly feed my dinosaurs. Thank you :D
Many commisera.......I mean, many congratulations!
Haha.
Had me worried for a sec but good to see 'tis but temporary.
I've been looking into some 120Hz laptops myself for working away from home. I couldn't go back to 60hz now I've tasted the higher refresh rate monitors.
What sort of thing are you looking at OB?
May the fairy treat you well and expensively
Commiserations on the lappy, but for sure exciting times! Please do share the end build with the drooling audience! :norty: :dribble:

I went with a pre-built mid tower system from Scan.
Fractal Define R6 White Mid Tower PC Case (not interested in RGB bling of any kind)
ASUS Intel Core-X STRIX X299-E GAMING ATX Motherboard
Intel 8 Core i7 7820X Unlocked CPU @ 4.5GHz with Corsair H100i V2 AIO Hydro/Water CPU Cooler
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB SC2 HYBRID AIO Watercooled Graphics Card
4 x Corsair 4GB DDR4 Vengeance LPX 3000MHz Memory
Corsair 650 Watt RMx Fully Modular RM650X ATX PSU
Samsung 970 PRO 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (I have quite a few other SSDs to complement this boot device)
nice build, shame it (MSI) didn't last long enough to get the 11xx nvidia in your build that is due out soon.
as for the dinos ill try to get on tomorrow night for a few mins
Very nice. Scan are ace. Now get a 144Hz screen if you haven't already... Can't recommend them enough.

According to the CEO of nVidia, you'll probably not be seeing then as soon as they originally said, perhaps not even until Q1 2019.

I started with this base build and tweaked it a bit.
https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/x99-carbon-ti
That white case is now not expected until September so switched to black.
Very nice.
Thanks always good to see what those in the know know.
That'll change your gaming life thrice over my friend, compared to your laptop. The 1080Ti only has one problem, it can run games at a frame rate so high it can end up hotter than you'd expect. So I ended up lowering my FPS in most games so they stick at a steady 120. No point in making them 200 and adding 5 degrees to the card heat. Enjoy!
Very nice indeed OB, many more happy hours of gaming ahead. [emoji108]

That's going to have to wait for the fairy's next visit I'm sorry to say
Oh nice upgrade Oldie!
I'm going to use "the upgrade fairy" from now on, made me laugh out loud!
Back to a box eh, well at least your Dinos are in BA5 stasis at the moment :D.
And as I type this post I notice that BA5 just came back online, doh........
So the old laptop has spluttered back to life which means I can game again. No ETA on the new box as yet
If you want you could keep your laptop and i'll take the pc off yer hands

Put what you want inside. It has no glass panel so I won't see it :norty:
I cleaned my PC out today and I can tell you no glass or plastic panel is a great idea. The static you get from cleaning them and in the end all they show is dust.
Get an antistatic cloth albert, problem solved.
The best bit about Scan is that they fill the box with sweets just before they seal it for delivery !

I use one already but the dry spring here left talc like skin dust all over the place which is like a powder and needs a real blast to remove. I have a mains powered dust blower, it gets all the dust out of the radiators for the hydro coolers and also from underneath. Well worth the4 price of half a dozen air canisters.
I once cleaned out an inch of desiccated moth parts from the bottom of Frenzy's PC. He left it on 24/7 with a couple of LED fans attracting the victims.
Build stage - memory testing.

QuoteYour system is now at stage 5 out of 9; our engineers are now installing the operating system selected at the time of order and updating all drivers for installed hardware. Once all software has been installed and updated your machine will run our suite of intensive tests to ensure stability.
Once your machine has passed our testing suite successfully it will move to stage 6 "24 Hour Burn In".
QuoteYour system is now at stage 6 out of 9, if you have purchased an overclocked machine our engineers will now overclock and fine tune the system via the motherboards BIOS, a profile will be saved for both standard and overclocked settings.
Your 3XS system (overclocked or at standard clocks) will then be put onto an intensive 24 hour soak/burn in test, this test is designed specifically to put the machine under 100% load to ensure complete stability over a period of 24 hours.
Once your machine has passed our 24 hour burn in it will move to stage 7 "Quality Control".
Estimated time to despatch - 3 working days.
Just HURRY UP!!!

So we get to use Oldies new PC as a piñata at the next lan.
Bring baseball bats.
Sadly no. They put the sweets in the cardboard box the PC comes in..... not into the actual PC case itself. Which I think would be far better if a bit gooey when it gets hot. Are melted jelly beans thermally conductive?
I'm more than willing to open the pc up, fill it with skittles, and hang it from the ceiling. I'm sure OB won't mind. :norty:
Well that's one way to die, and for our entertainment, Ben you are consummate professional
I dunno Toby I'm a pretty quick runner :roflmao:

QuoteYour system is now at stage 7 out of 9, having successfully completed its final assembly your system is now moving through quality control. At this stage your machine will complete an 88 point check covering all aspects of the 3XS build process and generate a report that's provided with the finished system.
Once your machine has passed our quality control stage it will move to stage 8 "System Built".
Estimated time to despatch - 1 working day.
The weekend looking like a possibility then :yahoo:
QuoteYour system is now at stage 8 out of 9; We are pleased to report that your system has now passed all tests and is in the process of being made available for despatch/collection.
Before despatch, the interior will then be filled with anti-static bubble wrap to provide maximum protection during transit.
Once your machine has passed our System Built stage it will move to stage 9 "Order Complete".
Estimated time to despatch; Today.
Those sweeties will soon be mine :D
I think I've had more updates about your PC than I did on the birth of my kids.

From the BBC
QuoteUp to 40 firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a PC Manufacturer in Bolton.
The fire at Enterprise Park, Middlebrook, Horwich, Bolton broke out at about 03:00 BST on Wednesday.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said it responded to reports of a fire which started in a Jelly Baby delivery van and spread to a nearby building.
Crews are now damping down ahead of an investigation into the blaze, the fire service said.
The Jelly Baby Van which was on fire is thought to have been parked in a loading bay belonging to an unnamed PC Manufacturing and Distribution Centre.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were sent into the building but were later pulled out, due to the danger if becoming trapped by the rivers of molten Jelly Babies flowing through the packing and distribution building, a fire service spokesman said. The business unit was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Residents in the area were advised to close their doors and windows.
Greater Manchester Police said road closures on Aspinall Way and Chesterfield Road were still in place this morning.

Quote from: OldBloke;432716Big box waiting for when I get home. Throw a sickie?
We know you're far too professional for that sort of shenanigans! Just simply leave a bit early, and act all giddy like a child when you tell your colleagues you have a new PC waiting, they'll understand.
Have fun!
Quote from: OldBloke;432716Big box waiting for when I get home. Throw a sickie?
no need, went round as many bases as i could find on raggy, including people who havent been on for a while. fed all the dinos at each one and fixed the electrics at wyvernhome. BTW pen you desert base is deserted
Oh, you missed the earlier bit when Oldies laptop miraculously came back to life after the buy button was pressed.
He's been feeding stuff and hunting for Tek Rexes.
I did notice some bases were stocked.

I could have written you a doctor's note for a small fee :norty:
:roflmao:
Enjoy mate.
Thanks Sulks. I did feed up Clifftop, wyvernholme and the pirate cave yesterday. Also moved desert dinos to clifftop.
Thanks for checking though.
I did the Ravager cave and Kitty cave not long back, along with the librarian, Bens and Pirate Cave. I drop off surplus meat at Clifftop as well and others if the mood takes me.
Oldies obviously too busy stroking his new baby now, the silence is deafening.
Quote from: Liberator;432752... Oldies obviously too busy stroking his new baby now, the silence is deafening.
Yes :D
Spent all of yesterday evening checking out the build and fitting my collection of SSDs.
Scan have done a fantastic job. The cable management is exemplary and I have no hesitation in recommending them as a system builder.
The Fractal Define R6 is a brilliant case and well worthy of the plaudits it receives. The noise suppression panels keep things nice and quiet although I haven't heard the system under full load as yet.
I intend getting some gaming in tonight to give it a real test.
The only disappointment was the total lack of sweets in the case.

paddy didnt get any in his scan build either, didn't want to mention it earlier in case it was a fluke, but obviously not

Totally agree, had them build a small system for the parents a while back. Did a grand job!
No sweets for them either
HAPPY GAMING! :yahoo:
