Title: Broadband providers
Post by: DiseasedBunny on July 20, 2018, 08:47:13 PM
It's that time of the year, when my deal with virgin media has run out and I'm having to look at alternative providers.

Am considering Plusnet, sky or Vodafone at the moment, all at 36 meg, just wondering what others use and if they are happy with them?

I've been with VM for years, and don't see myself switching. Unlike others I've rarely had any issues and I like the 380 Mbps speeds :D.  You could ask for a loyalty discount (only a 5er per month, but still...) or ask for a free upgrade to your line if they can support it in your area. If they don't want to offer any of those options then I'd start looking to switch.

I've been with sky didn't have any problems so can't grumble about them. Brother is on plusnet and he says there good as is their customer service. I'd stick with Virgin media to be honest....They'll try and get you to stay so a better deal could be struck for you. Virgin are always reliable for me, in the time I had sky I did have to phone them for tech support as the line went down.

I am hoping virgin will offer something, so far they have said that they will only lower the price if I reduce my package, so told them no to that one straight away. So I have given them the 30 day notice and hopefully they'll come back with a better offer.(was £51 going up to £75 - did say that if there was a 5 at the front then I would renew with them, but they aren't budging currently).

Been looking in more detail at my other options and if I do move back onto openreach then it will be the 76mb lines (we have had 80mb on this line years ago)

I use VM and don't see myself changing. When it came to renewal time I just locked myself into another 2 years and avoided paying higher charges.
Any other ISP will go over fiber and I'll be lucky to get 7 down rather than the 300 i get now.

This is slightly cheeky but whats stopping you from cancelling and opening a new account with them under a different name You could get vivid 365 for 44£ a month

All sorted - they rang me back and offered £55/m plus 3 free months for same package as I'm on now, for 18months.... that'll do

Ps - good job they did ring back, as our exchange is full for fibre, so would have been on ADSL until there was room in it 😁)
