Hello Sentient Gamers, Chatbots and Hallucinations
After one failed attempt to become involved in this community (work etc.) I have decided to have another crack at this gaming malarky. I was introduced to DMW by the hard-drinking Tea Leaf and I have had the rather odd sensation of having met more of you IRL (beer festival and BBQ) than online. I did previously join under the name Vivid (my initial Xbox Gamertag) but I have switched to Designergenes as this better matches my online presence for gaming. I am also a designer of medical devices- so it works on two levels!!11!!1
Anyway- having now discharged some responsibilities (including thirteen years as a school governor- where I met T/L) I'm going to try and be a bit more visible and involve myself with a community that plays regularly but has a low tolerance threshold for arseholes. A bit more about my personal tastes.
History - I have been gaming since my brother bought a Binatone console back in the mists of time. My own first console was a Sega Mega Drive, followed by a PS One (or PSX as it was in those days) and a Sega Saturn. This then moved to an N64 and a collection of Dreamcasts- probably the console I feel most sentimental about. (First proper HD capability (through a VGA box), arcade perfect and robust online presence (Blue Skies in Games!) and I featured in the official magazine a couple of times). Around about this time I also bought my first gaming PC. There then followed a blur of Xboxes (original, rebuilt, and 3 X360s) a Wii and a Ninty Switch. Also, 2-3 new gaming PCs. I've recently built my nephew a gaming PC which led to much swearing and cardiac incidents but I do know how to remove dried thermal paste from the CPU pins of a Ryzen 2700x.
Present - Still loving the Ninty Switch (which my daughters also love) but playing PC with rather more vigour now. My Steam pile of shame is, mercifully, made only of HDD code and not risking the destruction of a moderately large shelving unit. I'm also on Battlenet and Origin. I've been tending to play more solo/adventure games and as I'm in my late 40's my reflexes for twitch gaming are really not what they once were. I'm still interested in playing more strategic games and I do enjoy a decent co-op bash. Multiplayer games on my recently played list include Overwatch, No Man's Sky, Battlefield 4, Diablo 3 (s/p only so far).
Future - See above. Poss Monster Hunter World too.
Music - Progressive trance, deep house, electronica some rock/indie stuff too. Last band I saw live was Public Service Broadcasting.
Other Gaming - Quite a keen board/card gamer, but that's another story altogether.
Well, that's all the important stuff- so thank you for reading and I'd just like to say hello to everyone that knows me.
Welcome, DG. Nice intro :thumb:
Pleasure to meet you, thanks for the detailed info it's great to get some much information about yourself. I do hope this crack ah gaming lasts a bit longer for your sake ;). I am sure you will fit in very well on here. I look forward to talking and gaming with you. Even hit that buy button on monster hunter feel free to give us a shout if you want some help with it

Cracking intro, welcome back! :yahoo:
Welcome back - vivid rings a bell too. Great intro, see you around!
Thank you very much for the warm welcome, folks. Should I just have a nose around the specific game threads or are there any recommendations to jump into. Are there any regular mid-week sessions I could align to?
Really depends what sort of thing you're keen to try.
At the moment some of the more active games include -
Overwatch - played pretty much every night, with an 'official' meet on Wednesdays.
Rainbow Six Siege - played on random nights when it's regulars can make it, particularly Tuesdays.
Monster Hunter World - played as and when, I'd say every other night sort of activity.
No Man's Sky - played as and when, but seems quite popular for now.
PUBG - played as and when, perhaps not as much as the games above though.
Arma 3 - Played Sunday evenings.
I think some also play GTA5? I've seen people in the discord for it at least!
There will definitely be ones I've missed off that people are playing regularly (War Thunder?), and other titles will come and go.
Is there a particular genre you're interested in?
Does anyone else have any big names I've left off of the list?
Also need to get you into the dMw steam group, if you're not already in there - so you can see when/what people are playing.
OK- smashing, I'll look out for the Overwatch game tonight and join the DMW Steam group. I presume that Discord is used for all game chat?
I have been looking for an excuse to buy Monster Hunter and R6 Siege so I shall grab them in the next couple of days. I may need to upgrade my HDD to holographic memory though.
just dropping this in here https://steamcommunity.com/groups/dMw

Yep, Discord is used for most game chat.
Join the server here https://discord.gg/s5EcDJ3 and use your forum name in Discord.
When you get to the Discord server you will need to ask for permissions to be granted to you so you can see the text and voice channels.
To do this just paste the message into the chat channel you are in that says'@Discord Admin please give me member status.'
One of the Admins will then be along shortly and update your permissions.
Welcome to dMw (again) and good times at the BBQ!
Ta T/L
OB let me in the other day- so I guess Interpol don't share records with site admins. I shall join in the fun tonight from 8pm. I'll be the one with training wheels on my mouse...
Welcome :)
Welcome aboard the crazy ship
