Title: S.C.U.M SCUM Open world survival with a twist?

Dudes and dudettes, it's true, I'm not over the survival genre yet!
Cast your eyes upon S.C.U.M it's (obviously) in Early Access and it sports a range of features I've been desperate for in a survival sim! Allow me to elaborate!
Your vitals actually matter!
Your diet actually matters!
Wearing clothes that get soaked in water and expecting to be able to do things as if they are dry, MATTERS!


Zombies and pigs have so far killed me in this game, and I've also run away from a giant robot, these things I know little about, but I was excited to see them in game, because honestly I purchased based just on the above factoids as it is lol.

Some other worthy mentions include, layered clothing, and only being able to carry what you have pockets for, canabilsm (not like us ARK players aren't familiar with that AMIRIGHT) 3rd or first person and a groovy narrative around being some kind of convict in a game show?

Disclaimer:
I grabbed this because £15 is the perfect price point for these EA survival-em-ups
I'd be keen to check it out and give my perspective on it for anyone who's curious but (and i feel your pain) doesn't want to commit funds to ANOTHER survival game
Remember I typically love stuff so don't act surprised (Albert :rolleyes:) when I'm saying this seems awesome and I'm merrily inviting everyone to come give it a shot! :D

If I had to guess this would probably appeal to Ark/7days/Rust people the most.

It looks an awful lot like DayZ to me. Nice trailer though. Is there any base building in the game? And how's the polish at its current state? Do the various 'survival things' actually work?

I bought a copy last night and it's looking good, but very in depth.  base building is on the road map, you can just make a small camp at the moment.  it has a PVP element, but it's not looking as nasty as rust.

You may get away with running a PVE server as there are zombies and the POI or defended by mechs, But at the moment food and shelter is a challenge.

Would be good to pop on it together some time, my main criticism for it atm is just this server rent option instead of dedicated hosting, such a poor choice for these games I reckon...
And man I love the extra depth, but even understanding what to eat that wont give you the squirts is a task in its own lol

I started on a low pop server last night.

I have my camp setup bottom right hand corner of C4, Some good farmland there.  So food isn't an issue.
I should be playing all night tonight.  Come join me..

Patch Notes 0.1.17.8766 [Sept 14, 2018]

Hello prisoners! New SCUM patch is rolling out soon. Here are the new patchnotes for this week!

In case you get a problem of connecting to a server please keep in mind from the moment of patch deployment servers can take up to 60 minutes to updated!


- Implemented few damage modifiers: HumanToHumanDamageMultiplier, HumanToHumanArmedMeleeDamageMultiplier and HumanToHumanUnarmedMeleeDamageMultiplier

(This means you can customize your own server to make ti hardcore PvP or PvE)

- Added StartTimeOfTheDay=8.0 and TimeOfTheDaySpeed=1.0 vars to ServerSettings.ini that control speed and start time on the server

(You can adjust your own start time on your server, and how fast day and night cycle change)

- Added auto-walk initiated by pressing shift and forward key (shift+W by default..PRAISE THE LORD)

- Dedicated server will no longer cause lag spikes when players climb onto windows or ladders.

- Puppets can now damage you while you are in prone and crouch.

- Added the ability to rebind chat and quick access buttons to options menu

- Added 2 new chests. Improved wooden chest, improvised metal chest. (For now the only difference is the amount that can be stored in Wooden chest 10x10, Improved wooden chest 15x15, Metal chest 20x20, also the metal chest can't be destroyed)

- Potential ACOG aim precision fix

- Possible fix for a server crash when a player leaves the game

- Added Ammo cal.357

- Added 2 new prison wallet items [Supporter Pack owners]

- Corrected boxing punches animations. (Some punches tend to miss by too much now it's fixed and all punches land in acceptable bounds)

- Increased number of items saved in single player (100 items in 150m radius)

- Added Atlas LODs and textures for Airport Passenger Building. (Optimized
meshes that render on long distances)

- Fixed collision on a stair case in light house where player could not move.

- Fixed a server crash when a prisoner dies while registered for an upcoming event and has no controller (probably force logged out)

- Fixed bug on spawn screen that allowed players to pay respawn fee multiple times by pressing the button in quick succession.

- Fixed "aquatic life", prisoners can drown now.

- Fixed a bug where microphone indicator wasn't active when push to talk was disabled

- Hungry / thirsty messages localization fix

- B_3_Military_base (moved military crates that were in the ground, rearranged crates on street for better player movement)

- SVD and AK47 animations update

- GreenHouse - Item spawner, increased spawning chances

- Optimized railway bridge LODs

- Fixed Player start position (Fixed the problem where player spawned too high in the air)

- Animal Waypoint editing. (Some animals spawned under ground, now they do not)

- Doubled item auto destruct distance and timer (It checks every 20 minutes if someone is in 100m radius. If not the item is destroyed, and after 60min it gets destroyed no matter of player radius. This does not apply to shelters and boxes and time timer is reset each time the player has an interaction with the item)

- Fixed items only having uncraft action on state load. (This means that some items in SP after log in were unusable, you only could uncraft them eg: spears)

- Fixed options-related issues and crashes with German and Russian languages

- Added Improvised stabproof vest craftable item.

- Closed collision on tunnel frames big and small (possible bug fix with teleporting player outside)

- Fixed issue where sentries would sometimes not be able to pass underneath the vaults high above the ground.

- Nearby items are now saved in single player.

- Removed collision from industrial lights. (you can't jump on them now)

- Fixed Collision on bunker rooms with glass (players should see you through glass now)

- Rearranged some house interiors so player does not get stuck while vaulting.

- Fix improvised stabproof vest

- Significantly reduced range for inventory handling and crafting sounds.

- Fixed hum sound artifacts for wind and crafting.

- Reduced range of puppet sound.

- Added search sounds for various items.

- Increased volume of sentry voice.

- Various client performance tweaks

- Various server performance tweaks

Pen Oldie I managed to loot the whole prison and escape.  So if you are waiting at the boxes for me don't I have returned to base with my goodies.

Sure.

Interesting that so long as near your pack you have an hour to get back before it despawns rather than the 20 mins we thought.

auto walk is better. Wonder if it works when jogging?

Seriously sucks given we left most of our gear in boxes for the raid.

Pff. I think I may move location to somewhere closer to the action - Centre of B2 looks good to me (black circle).



If anyone is near the old base can they please destroy my shelter as I'm not able to build a new one. Thinking possibly the old one needs to go first. Thanks.

At the moment it is all about the sneaking in and getting the good kit,  but it is very as you say pointless.   The level of survival info is something that Dr Chaos would understand.  But for ME it is lacking buildings, and also the same with all survival horrors end game or goal.

Saying all that negative stuff, it is a great laugh when you are playing in a team, and you have a loony making insane runs and risks.   But it also has this strange draw for you to keep wanting to play it.  

It is so very pretty and it is cheap and it is an alpha.  So hope it adds more cool stuff and a point.

You're a convict dropped into a walled-off area populated with puppets (zombies) where you have to scavenge for food, weapons and supplies. The best stuff is in compounds guarded by baddass mechs. Occasionally a TV drone appears above your head to broadcast your attempts at survival to an unknown audience. There is a distinct lack of a building mechanic within the game with just a rudimentary shelter being your marker as a base. There are other players within the area and you have the ability to squad-up so there's both a PVE and a PVP element to your struggles. My guess is that this game will evolve to be either 'Battle Royale'  or a full-on survival game where teamwork would be essential.

Either way it's currently very pretty, impressively bug free and suits the drop-in play for a bit then drop-out style of player. The negative is that it's decidedly content-light with additional game mechanics on the way.

Worth £15 in my honest opinion.

£15 isn't too bad, but it is the lack of content and already having 1,000 games I am enjoying working my way through keeping me at bay for now. As Mike said, one to keep an eye on.

Projectile initial lifespan reduced to 6 seconds

Seems a busy server

It's and actively admined server.  they have KOS and safe zones.

get on there Discord server and agree to the T&C's. this will give you access to there maps so you can see where is safe
