As some of you wise and observant individuals might have already noticed, when you were signing up for this year’s fast approaching DMW Autumn Lan that there was a mention about a Deadathalon competition. Well the stories were true and this year we will be visiting again the fun filled, full on and varied competition and we strongly encourage anyone who has not experienced this event to change there “Not sure†entry on the forum to a “yes count me inâ€. :boxing:
For those who are not sure what the event is about, here is a quick summary. The competition will be carried out over several different rounds and cover several different games, platforms and style of play , but will also not always require you to look at a screen or touch a keyboard :yahoo:. We start off with everyone who signed up for the competition participating and quickly eliminate players until there is only 1 player left standing and who will be crowned this years Winner and Champion.
Yes there will be a prize for the winner and runner up along with raising the coveted Retro Trophy for this year’s Champion.
Except for the first round of the competition. The games, systems and set up will be provided for and you are not required you to bring anything other than your wit and skills. In addition, all rounds of the competition except the first round will be kept a secret until the end of the previous round. This way no one will be able to get sneaky practice in and get the edge over the competition.
As mentioned the first round I will announce to you and it will be a Team Death Match round (hopefully everyone playing at once on 64 man server) on the brutal first-person game Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. The game has recently had an update released which included a dedicated server option which our very own No Peanuts is looking into. This is the only game you will need a steam copy of to play at the Deadatherlon and which I encourage people to invest in as it is a proper laugh, and a game that is very likely to become a regular at the Lan’s like TF2.
You can currently pick up a copy of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare in the sale at humble bundle for £2.50 so less than a pint of beer and in a little way an investment towards charity.

What time is this starting?
Early afternoon on the Friday, which unfortunately may not suit later Friday arrivals :(

Aye that is what I was thinking if you could narrow it down to a time. It might make it easier for people to see if they can bust a gut to be able to join in.
Gortex may be able to give a little more up to date information, so I'll nudge him too. On the booking form we specified that you'd have to be at the LAN by midday Friday to join the Deadathalon. I can't imagine this will have changed by a great deal I'm afraid :/
Hmmmmm this is why sneaky boy Pnuts asked for my copy I had from Humble Bundle about a week ago :lmfao:
I canny seem to see the post to see if i signed up or not, i cant remember if i did...what was this reply about again
Medieval warfare chivalry installed

I have you down as a yes sulky. But don't worry if you change your change your mind*, the sign up for the Deadathalon is really only so we have an idea of numbers.
*I'm a little scared of the idea of Gortex with a sword too, tbh.
Should be fun!!! :D
I accidentally bought a second copy of this game, so if any LAN attendee wants a key for it then let me know.
QuoteI'm a little scared of the idea of Gortex with a sword too, tbh.
Why use a sword when a 2 handed battle axe is much more fun for splitting people in two or possibly a morning star to bury in enemy heads.
QuoteWhat time is this starting?
The start time for the Chivalry will be 3pm (ish)
I also forgot to mention Chivalry is full friendly fire
ON so big melee fights with 30+ people is going to result in wonderful carnage and limbs flying everywhere. So reining champ Rouge Taylor watch your back my man. :woot2:
I'd love for someone to record this - seems an awesome idea.

So the first event is at 3pm I might make that!!!!
That's great news. We really ummed and ahhhed over trying to balance getting as many as possible involved in the Deadathalon vs starting it too late and ending up cramming too much stuff into too few hours! Good to hear 3pm works for you, and hopefully by extension BigBenji!
Yeah sign us both up please thanks
Not sure if I signed up to this but if not please add me as well. :thumbsup2:

Big Bump for this thread and anyone wanting to take part in the epic Deadathalon this year. You will need a copy of Chivalry to join in so go buy it now before it gets more expensive than £2.50.
I'm not missing something am I? I am signed up for this right?
You did my dude, just make sure you own Chivalry and you're good to go. MrsSith also signed up, and I have a copy and PC orted for her (as she is a social attendee).

Installed and tested Chivalry now, and the optimization... Oh, the optimization...
How is it possible for a rig that runs Overwatch flawlessly on Ultra struggles with this on low?

Somebody's claimed this code already :(
I believe TeaLeaf has a spare code Jewelz, but yes would have been good to know that this one was taken.
@ Faust, Overwatch is very very well optimised... Chivalry is very very... good at ruining friendships. :norty: Optimisation, not so much!!!
22 hours until the end of the sale peeps so if want to play or not even sure if you signed up for Deadathalon don't worry as you will be included but you need to get a copy of the game.
Chivalry is very likely to feature again at a Lan and possibly as a main comp so it is not money wasted.

Awesome to hear Gortex. I look forward to seeing this game more in the future
