In the early days they were innovative and could create their own characters and worlds.
People make companies, gone, recycled games last a finite amount of time and I think with franchises dictating their road map it was only a matter of time before their bubble burst. Shows you have to still innovate even when you are already very good, and don't sell yourself to the bigger companies.
