Was just checking it out. They tend to pull things together fast. And a AAA open world survival is a first. Interested.

If it's anything like the launch of Elder Scrolls Online I'd rather hold off for the first 3 years :roflmao:

I'm staying away from this one.

When I want more Fallout, I load up my heavily modded Fallout 4. I still have hours of playtime in that ahead of me, it's a fantastic game / world to explore. I've not seen anything from Fallout 76 that makes me feel I'm missing out on much.

Not really convinced Fallout is a game that needs to be played with a group, and isn't best explored solo. There is something about being alone in the bleak (but quirky) wasteland that appeals. Worst of all, it seems by removing all NPCs, the game has lost a certain amount of that charm.

Don't want to go on too much about the game's technical state, but I'll add that I am disappointed Bethesda seem to want to keep using a game engine that was already out of date in 2015 when Fallout 4 landed. Having to wait for the modding community to 'fix' yet another Bethesda game is pretty shameful, tbh. I remain hopeful that ES6 launches on something new, but perhaps I am just being naive there!

Keep in mind my post was largely centered around what I want from Fallout. You may want something different.

I would suggest you watch a few different reviews / opinions on YouTube though, if interested. There are some positive ones out there, but my impression is that these remain vastly outnumbered by the more negative.

I've bought the game as I like the Fall Out series normally. I haven't installed it yet though, awaiting Black Friday for some more tech stuff.

I have to say its worth every penny. It would be fine as standalone but the fact you do the missions with friends or randoms means its great. I was so Immersed I didn't realise it was 2am. Made getting up at 630 hard work.

I am still wavering, not least because I'm immersed in Fallout 4 at the moment. My only serious reservation is the lack of NPC's to interact with and the fact that as Chaos said the fun of single player Fallout games is the fact that you wander alone in a Mad Max style. I guess the group dynamic does work in 76 then?

I've seen. There are some really scathing reviews online which is the only thing holding me back. 'Worth A Buy' gave it a serious kicking on his Youtube Channel. Others reviewers quite like it though so there's no real consensus.

There's a couple of big updates coming on 4th and 11th December with a promise of more patches and stuff into 2019.

At the moment reviews are mixed

https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/fallout-76

so I'm waiting for Duvel, Evil etc to either praise it or trash it once they've spent time in game.

I personally love it. 3rd night in the row I have been so emerged I went to bed around 2am. Makes getting up at 630 tough.

There are so missions, Storylines and quests you could do it alone but more fun with friends. I have had no issues with the game whatsoever.

There are quite a lot of mixed and negative reviews out there. Some reviewers have utterly trashed the game as being the worst game of 2018 which seems harsh on reflection. Generally though the reviews come in as 'mixed'.

Reviews are of course just opinions not statements of fact. I've hated games that get great reviews and loved games that get universally trashed. But Fallout 76 does look like a game I'd love exploring for a little while and then quickly lose interest in. It also looks remarkably similar to Fallout 4 which I'm already playing and enjoying.

buy it on steam and refund it before 2 hours, if necessary.

Everyone has different rigs and different standards of acceptable optimisation.

If a game drops below 20FPS, glitches and can't load textures on a "youtubers" rig with a i9 + 1080ti then i'm not gonna think it's playing well on a "real dMw members" rig (no offence).

Here's another video, from a well known youtuber (massive fallout fan) with amazing gear:

I watched Joe's review and also his followup and I am bitterly disappointed in what the devs have thrown out in this game. I would go so far to say that some of the mess Joe shows in his video was worse than what Star Citizen threw at us the other week. I mean objects you can just walk through, light rays originating from rocks, zombies with no animation at all that attack you. No push to talk, no FOV slider. Ridiculous grind, microtransations for items that were free and normal parts of every other Fallout release for the last 10 years. It's been reduced to an under a tenner game for me and then only if it's been fixed, a lot.

Post by: albert on December 22, 2018, 03:41:42 PM
Ok call me horribly inconsistent, I picked it up for about a tenner. I've played many rubbish EA games (early access for Electronic...) and they tend to be a bit unpolished and rather disappointing for quite a while before they get their act together. This I've found a real pleasure for that price, yes AAA price no way. What I'm saying is if you don't mind a 10-15 quid grey market key price and you're curious, it does ok.

I've picked it up for that price.

There's a rumour stores are pulling it from shelves and digital copies are being sold off dirt cheap as it's going free to play very soon.

The Original Story (https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/the-future-of-fallout-76/)

Seems a bit speculative and you have to wonder what the poor souls who forked out £50 for this will think if it does go free.

On the other hand it seems clear Bethesda didn't actually create any new assets to speak of, just reused a lot of Fallout 4 stuff, nor had to create any real narrative or mocap & voice any NPC's. So the cost of actually launching the game was probably quite low. Their name is mud in the gaming community now, so what do they have to lose. Just crank out a load of delightful play to win microtransactions and they'll be back in the money.
Title: fallout 76
Post by: albert on January 20, 2019, 05:40:44 PM
It's still ok for a tenner. For £50 it's a disgrace. Although given our recent experience with Atlas and the unpredictability of well... anything in there, 76 is ..ok. But from a major studio, it's nonsense business.
Title: fallout 76
Post by: Chaosphere on January 20, 2019, 10:41:07 PM
Yeah, Bethesda would have to pay me to play Fallout 76 at this point, and even then I'd not be happy about it.

Despite this, I've still hope for the next Elder Scrolls. If Bethesda somehow drop the ball on that they'll really be in hot water.

Seems the free to play rumours may have been mistaken.

It's fairly easily available for under a tenner these days, but then again so is a Friday night Kung pao chicken, and I know which I'd choose.

Who is this idiot?  This guy is the reason half my friends wont got to the states. He is not doing the majority of his countrymen any favours.
Shouting through the mic "tell your Mom to shut the f%$k up" ???  Really? And you actually take notice of him?
I expect that if his rig is running FO76 at 20fps, its probably struggling to cope with his enormous mouth and even bigger ego as my i7 + 1060 doesnt run anywhere near that slow.

Anyways, that aside, the game hasnt been perfect since i paid full price plus beta early doors  but overall its behaved and ive enjoyed it. Some things could be better, some things are better so i guess it just depends what you want or expect.
Its nice to see a landscape that isnt trashed completly. Its nice to occasionly run with mates as a team and its nice to explore a new fallout world. its nice to be somewhere familiar allthough different. Its abit like holidays, we want to see all these different places and cultures but inside.... we still hope we can get a good bacon sarnie and a good tea.

I find it cool that the only people you see are real and i dont miss npc's at all. If you are wandering alone it does actually feel like you are the only one left, success.
On the other hand, i help and have been helped by other unknown humans which restores a little faith in humanity. Success. I have also been needlessy killed by humans that probably dont 'get' the game, typical. You only have to watch our loud American friend from the video to know the sorts i mean.  If it was RL, you would have to shoot him to shut him up before the scorched come, lol.

The only downside of this game for me is the building stuff. Its similar again but abit more fiddly and the build limits are still low. But then, if everyone is building small towns, how would it all work? I guess that the loud bloke above has never programed anything and just expects things to work how he wants them too. Yes, there should of been a PTT button but is it really worth fireing f*&ks into someones mother over the comms? Did he mention it only took a couple of weeks and that was sorted in an update? Fixed.

Lastly, i loved the comment "It's fairly easily available for under a tenner these days" like its old, lol. November 11th i believe, thats not quite 3 months :roflmao:

For a tenner, i would say its definitly worth a look. Obviously i cant say how the updates and new content will go but like the lottery, you gotta be in it to win it.

Have fun,
Slider.

Totally agree with you mate, Joe does over react but that's the guy's style, like it or loath it he just does that stuff.

I think the game is fine, I compare it to other open world survivals I've ploughed 100s of hours into and this is quality from the get go.

Yeah it had teething issues, but at least it works.

I dont think anyone plays it anymore but if you link your bethesda.net account and Steam your get the game for free on Steam when launched on 14th April. (needs to be done before the 12th)

Just to be clear, you need to own the game on Bethesda.
I had wrongly thought from reading this, they were giving the game away for free on Steam for linking the accounts but you must own the game already.
