It's like Borderlands meets PUBG with a dash of Overwatch thrown in for good measure.
And...
It's free!

It's by EA
Yep. Let's talk micro-transactions.
So far there are 8 Legends (characters). Two of them are locked out. You can use in-game currency to unlock, or (of course) purchase them with £££. It costs 12,000 per Legend (IIRC) and in one night of gameplay I earnt more than 4,000. Can't remember the exact number.
All other unlocks are cosmetic only, from what I can tell. You get loot boxes for levelling up, each containing 3 cosmetics of varying 'quality'.
For now, with an investment of £0 you can play the game and should find yourself at no disadvantage at all, which is great. The locked out Legends are different, but not better.
The gun-play is fast and fluid, and the game seems relatively well polished and complete (which I find refreshing). My main concern is with only 1 map and 8 characters, I'm not sure how long it will hold my interest. Still, at £0, perhaps that isn't such a deal-breaker.
When I first saw the game, I was underwhelmed and thought to ignore it. For some reason I decided otherwise, and I'm glad I did. My scepticism was misplaced on this one. Definitely worth a go!

Aside from it's an arena shooter vs a battle royale, you just described Quake Arena :D
I'd say it's more Fortnite then PUBG given it's free, cosmetic microtransactions system, and those redeploys. But without the building mechanic which I think puts a lot of traditional (older) FPS fans off.
Yep, that's perhaps a more apt comparison. Have to say I really enjoyed it last night and am looking forward to playing some more when I finish work.
Given that it's free I'd really encourage people to give it a go, more fun than you might think!
I have downloaded it (especially as it's free), I gave black out a try when it came out and quickly knew it wasn't for me but will give this a try even though I don't think it's for me either, but nonetheless will see.

Not sure if its been said, but I like that its found a niche by combining the hero/skill+ultimate gameplay of Overwatch and the Battleroyale fun of Fortnite minus the building mechanics.
Also I love that it's a "more traditional" FPS, with gunplay that feels nostalgic and snappy and fun.
Nice one Milli. I'll be around tonight after work (which I hope to leave on time today!), so online by about 2130-2145 if all goes well. :yahoo:

After watching some videos there are also elements I'd recognise from PUBG. Particularly the weapon upgrades and looting. Fortnite is pretty simple in comparison.
Ok I bit, I'll be about as dreadful at this as I was at Overwatch.

Absolutely. Looting and gear quality is a big part of the game. Much like PUBG there are high risk high reward areas, or you can choose to try and find somewhere a bit quieter to start with but risk ending up with inferior gear when it counts.
The abilities are also key, and like Overwatch you should aim to build a squad whose members synergise well together. There are one or two abilities that I think need a bit of a balance tweak, but overall the game plays well and these unique traits add a nice twist and (IMO) an additional strategic consideration.
It's fast paced, and the ability to revive your team mates (either pick up when downed like PUBG, or full revive as long as you pick up their 'banner' in time) is great. If you play it well, it can mean less time sitting in spectate. Some may not like this revival element, preferring the one life only style, but for me I enjoy it. It's another strategic risk. You're at risk when collecting the banner, and again when calling in the revive (it's very visible).
Really enjoying this one.
Jamoe79 - add me up :) that or ill try and get on discord tonight
I’m really enjoying it, the elements they have added to a BR game is genius, the whole revive / recover with the banner collection, being able to ping loot, enemy and pretty much everything just encourages teamwork so much. It plays so so smooth.
Pasting this link from Discord so we don't loose it in message spam!

One more for you guys.
Something I didn't know is that all characters move at the same rate. Good to know for the tanky ones in particular.
A lot of chat going on about this game so its installing now. :-)
Nice to hear more of you giving this game a ago.
Yeah chaos it’s somthing I learnt that no matter what they all move at the same speed, it’s just the speed of the arms that change from character to character.
I imagine most now know but "3" will harness your gun and you get a pretty big speed boost.

Season 1 Details. With regards to the battlepass, 1000 coins is £7.99. I'll probably spend that to see how it all works. With the 100 hours I've put in so far, it's not much to ask.
And so it begins
As far as I know it is still only cosmetics that you unlock. You can unlock everything through regular gameplay, but it will take considerably longer if you don't have the pass. Nothing is 'locked out' though. The fact that you can play the game for free and be at no competitive disadvantage at all still sounds like a good deal to me.

Something something about the BF-franchise ;)
Not sure you can really compare them. BFV is a full price game (which I purchased). Apex is a free to play game. This is a pretty big difference tbh. I have enjoyed both.

Sadly it seems that even
with the battle pass, a
tremendous amount of grinding is required to get what can only be described as fairly mediocre rewards. Seems a nit naff to me... wish I had my £7.99 back, I could get a lemon chicken and some spring rolls for that...
You win, you lose, there will always be lemon chicken and some spring rolls.
Does anyone else here still suffer from random crashes to desktop? I really enjoyed getting in to the game, but there came a point a week or two ago where I stopped out of frustration because of them!
I had plenty up until perhaps a week ago. Not sure if they've actually fixed something or I've just been playing less / lucky.
i was having lots of crashes to desktop, not had a single one since i updated to nvidia driver 419.35

OK, cheers. I'll fire it up and see if anything has changed!

AMD for me I'm afraid. I had heard that there were nvidia problems, but not found much that is useful re. AMD
Driver update fixed the issues for me. Havent crashed in a while.
Literally only had one crash since I have been playing it. Annoying you cant rejoin your friends.
Quote from: raucameron1981;438005Hey guys! I'm newbie here and looking for some Apex guide. Was able to find this article https://apexstat.net/wiki/legends for now but I really think that it's not enough. Some tips will be appreciated. Thanks!
I still play this game daily as its easy to jump in and out of. The best tip I can give you is run into a fight with minimal gear at the start and then go off and get gear after (if you survive) . oh and use ctrl a lot.
There is a lot of good content on YouTube, spend an hour looking through some random tutorial videos and you'll soon pick up a few new tricks.
First one I clicked on, as an example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpIn-bxNQho
Good luck, have fun :D
