Title: Laser Printer Advice
Post by: Jamoe on April 27, 2020, 11:04:32 AM
Looking for advice on a Printer purchase. Budget is about £300 (pre lockdown price) but happy to spend a little more if it means cheaper cartridges.

Currently we have a temperamental Epson Inkjet SX425W (https://www.epson.co.uk/products/printers/inkjet-printers/for-home/epson-stylus-sx425w), it's usb/wifi, but the wifi causes me no end of grief and constantly drops out (usually with the Macs). Alongside all the pain of dealing with Inkjets, I'm just done with them and want move to a Laser printer.

Usage isn't consistent but I imagine if it was more reliable my wife (who's a teacher) would use it more often.

Key things I'm after
 - Duplex (2-sided printing)
 - wifi/wired connection
 - Colour
 - Reliable after periods of no use
 - Happily works with all flavours of OS (Windows, iOS, Ubuntu but less concerned about)

Things I don't care about
 - PPM
 - Printing Photos
To give an idea of size etc, something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HZPXD78/ref=emc_b_5_t would be fine, note that pre-lockdown this printer was under £300, it's not £390. :ranting2:

Note: Currently prices have gone a bit mad with the lockdown so I'll likely wait until things go back to normal. But may have to pay the axtra.

Thanks in advanced

Jamoe

I ave two of these Samsung ClX 6260FW.

Love the digital display display so no need to keep popping back to the PC, good life and bullet proof (big though). It's been discontinued but there's a replacement.

I tend to go to Printerland for mine as they're pretty switched on ('scuse the pun) with these things. https://www.printerland.co.uk/

comparing them like for like

The Lexmark looks better on every stat from price, cost per page to speed to warranty to processor to RAM.

Plus a 14-day free trial. Not shabby.

Much to my surprise, the printer arrived this morning. It's a weighty beast of a thing, I should have measured better :D but I'd still have bought it.

Very easy to setup, once it was in position I was printing inside of 10 minutes. Networked via cable that I had already setup but rarely used.

Printed a 40pg PDF and a 43pg powerpoint document which the old printer just wouldn't touch (kept rejecting the document). It duplexed it without me asking, which was anice surprise.

It's already saved me some of my sanity :)

I love it

Yes, they're not exactly small lol.

Just wait 'til you're printing homework or projects out for the kids. Mine love it.

Just to dig up an old thread and say thanks again to Penfold for recommending printerland, now on my third printer purchase from them (initially B&W laser, then colour laser for a family member, and finally a colour laser for us) and they have consistently had the best pricing and best service :yahoo:
