Sulky and I jumped on SC last night, basically having nothing else to do. We were quickly joined by Sithy, Gal and Sneaky.
Sithy offered up a quick tutorial on how to call an appropriate ship and fly it to a safe R&R station.
So sulks and me jumped in a Pisces, took off, jumped to the station and landed :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
I was so, so happy. My excitement for this game is back. No, it's not optimised and it's buggy in places but the simple act of flying a ship with keyboard and mouse with simple control inputs was a sheer joy.
Thank you, Sithy. I'm hooked :thumb:
That's great to hear. See you online later then!
I'm re-downloading it so will join the Sithy 101 class this week hopefully.
cheers sith and gal, was good fun. Glad Oldie didnt mention my sticking a Freelancer on the hanger roof escapade
I couldn't be happier seeing/ hearing that kind of joy for the game Oldie and Sulky! It makes the hours Galatoni and I have sweat out some of the most tremendous bugs all worth it!
Flight school is about 40minutes long (if things go normalish) so let me know if anyone else would like to give it a go!
Once everyone gets that initial push to the R&R station and can comfortably repeat the process, I'll look to hosting a full on multi crew mission experience! :D
I had a brief dalliance with SC ages ago under Lib's guiding eye. Managed to do a few missions and land my ship. I may join you for a refresher.
That was nice to hear Oldie! Hope to see you all in the verse sometime... :yahoo:
Interesting I have finally managed to get the launcher to work and now have the updates to download.
Really glad people haven't completely lost hope with it. Was a pleasure to see people on. Patch that should sort out the worst of the remaining issues should land on Friday as the fleet week starts.
Is there any sort of persistence? Can I work to buy a new ship, for example? I'd jump on for a go if so...
@chaos, not in the way of buying ships, best you can do is buy armour, weapons, clothing and armour is some of the things you can buy from shops. You can also now look at buying part for your ships, maybe get some bigger laser for one of your ships.
Had a brilliant night last night. Was able to play with sith gal and later was joined by lib last night. We Started out with sith and gal showing me some missions, first went a bit wrong but second one went very nicely, we went back to a port in the hoplite. When we got there we started to do some shopping and get some food and drink since they was running low. Lib came and joined us so we took out a freelancer and heading off to go and see a new planet with a research base on. The planet was beautiful, seeing the snow slowing us down as we walked around the planet surface before going off to the dark side of the plant to find the base. The base was a basic one with 3 building and a little trade hut there. Hearing as seeing the wind was crazy as it slowed us all down when we walked into it but when we walked with it then we was able to run instead of only walking. Sith and gal I think it was got a distress message from a luxury liner request help due to them being boarded. We ran to the ship and took off to see if this was a real thing and we was amazed to these the ships there asking for help, it had two 2 red (ships that I can’t remember the name of) that we had to defeat before getting close to the ship. I though the mission would be over when them ships died but it kept going. He had to space walk over to the ship, find a door that opens and get inside it. We saw the enemy inside hiding and shooting at us. Got a few kills before one guy did a weird jump in the air and killed me but none the less this was awesome to be a part of!!
Sorry for the walk of text, write it while at work XD sorry !
There's _some_ persistence. But no, If you're solely trying to work-towards something i'd say it's not ready for you just yet. That said, if you did want to have a look around what's available - go for it.
Ha. Glad you enjoyed the evening Rogue. Probably not helped by the inventory bug I was suffering, but would love to do that again. Was a cracking evening.

Cheers guys, I think I will wait.
I feel like it probably has one chance to grab me, so I will wait for the right time.

You're young, you should be fine :norty:
On a serious note it would seem proper persistence is not far away now. Whether this means absolutely everything you do today will be with your for ever is uncertain, but it looks promising

Good to hear it's coming, but as with everything Star Citizen it will take time. That video mentions the most basic of persistence functions by the end of 2020, and anything beyond that 'sometime after'.
See you in 2030 then gents. :yahoo:
warm feels :yahoo:
I'll try and take you up on the training session when 3.9.1 is out Sithy, hopefully before this weekend with the free flight week.
I guess it's different for each player. I would find it hard to play and work through an MMO when everything I did was going to get scrubbed at some point in the future.
Ark also restarts quite often but then I imagine it's possibly the progression that counts rather than the end result.
But in an MMO like SC I'd be there to acquire ships, real estate, business, reputation etc. Sort of like World of Warcraft. I'd freak if my Level 120 toon suddenly got bumped back to level 1 and losteverything.
That's why I couldn't see myself spending much time there if it was all going to be for nothing, while the game works through Alpha etc.
I totally share your thoughts actually Smilo!
However, if you don't mind that money is persistent, then there is still fun to be had in the game, my balance has grown and stayed with me for the last 3 patches since data persistence was in, but yes, fair enough, I've had to rebuy the odd bit of equipment that got deleted, this was only for ship equipment I had bought and fitted though, my character equipment has remained mostly persistent too.
I'm not about to dump credits in game for ships etc but having the cash handy is definitely a plus.
And my advice remains, if you want a bug free game, then SC simply isn't ready for you yet :)
Also as a laughable side note, when you log into WoW in December your 120 character will be 50 with 10 levels to go for the new expansion :roflmao:
So the chuffed factor didn't hang around long did it?
I've been on SC every day this week and not a single person has joined Discord whilst I was there (maybe that should tell me something :D). But seriously, there is a lot to do for beginners in the game right now and I estimate that you'd get 2-3 weeks of decent solo and team gameplay.
Most importantly, you'd have the basisi of understand required to make the next update easy to get into. I encourage people to try it out.
[@Chaos, yes you can buy many ships in game with aUEC gained from missions, and they will persist through the Alpha (and if they disappear you can raise a ticket asking for your hard earned assets returned) - In a matter of hours you can get the starter ships and then if you are really dedicated, within a week a medium ship - you just have to resist the urge to by clothing and unnecessary gear, which is a tough ask. I've literally had only one incident where assets have disappeared, and it was during a silly mission where I jumped from my ship onto an enemy vessel and was gunned down by a ship whilst landing. I lost a helmet and a few weapons that were tied to my account, but could replace these easily.]
I have been on most days, just because people are not in discord doesn’t mean the game isn’t getting played. I have been doing a lot of mining or trying to get my head around mining and how to get a good mining run. So a lot of the time I mine with some music in the back ground while trying a new flavoured coffee... just like a true miner. I have seen addx on it a lot as well, with a few struggles that this games brings but players are still playing it. I have grouped up with lib sith and addx in the week, and have done a few things but mainly me and addx have been trying to get some money out of mining.

I understand, everyone has certain people they like playing with. Hey but listen, I am on the discord channel so it would be nice if people would but just join. It's nice to know others are there to bounce ideas off and be a community.
So to give you an idea of what we can achieve together, I am also trying to mine and trade to get money, I did 2 days with a Prospector, pretty low pickings to be honest, I had to individually just trawl through YouTube channels and find a few good tips to try. Why not put our collective imagination together and share what works and what doesn't?
Right now I can get 100K every few hours FPS mining, or 300K doing 15K deliveries, trading I can make 40K every 20 minutes but the game crashes and you lose the lot.
I joined the discord of LOLS, the group Lysander plays with and whilst they don't have anyone online at a particular time, they are still helping those who are there, and they welcomed me with open arms. Tomorrow they will do a group night with some escorts and a Hammerhead. No idea what it will entail but it's more interesting than anything dMw have done for a few weeks.
I was on a bit yesterday. Few one hour stints, and I was on Friday night for many hours. During the week is usually a bit hit-and-miss. I work from home, and while I do game, I prefer to not sit round all the time. So during the week, I'll do other things (VR) or play with hardware. I usually try and stand up to do these things though.
I'm considering a standing desk but right now I'm just trying to stay afloat.
Easy on the tone though Albert. Not everyone wants to play SC, and that's fine right now. There is plenty to do, but playing an alpha isn't everyone's vibe.
I do feel I should say though, a few people have been helping people find their feet. Despite me not being on much I've managed to find time to help people, done a few missions. I'm aware of at least a 6 more examples of people doing stuff. Bit unfair to say that were not doing anything interesting.
I'm just going with the data from my last week of Discord, yes there are a few people playing solo, but not a single person has come on Discord in the last week whilst I've been there playing and I'm playing a few hours every evening with a couple of exceptions. (Ok it might be me, you're all on a private channel happily playing and avoiding me, I wouldn't blame you ).
The point I'm making is that for a game like SC to survive in a community and yes it's still Alpha, there still needs to be some glimmer or a spark that lasts more than the average hype duration of any other game. We have an organisation structure with departments, roles, big plans, and likely zero chance of any of that ever being realised because we simply cannot keep the interest up long enough to establish a stable persistent community. (I'm sure the org structure will be revisited to make it more approriate to the new dMw Community structure so I'm not worried about that).
Like you, Sith and several others, I want to see dMw do a good job of SC, so I'm not pointing fingers as it's not a single individual or group challenge, it's a community challenge. I know how it feels with Elite Dangerous to have put thousands of hours into a game helping and training, being patient as people climb a very steep learning curve, for it all to just pitter out. I'm just saying lets try a bit harder on Discord for longer than the average tollerance period, maybe we'll get over a hump.
I don't think there is much to discuss, the current state of the game is enjoyable only as a labour of love for those of us who want to labour at it. I encourage people like Oldie etc to come see the games progression which he did and was "chuffed" but I wouldn't expect them to set aside even 1 night a week to play the game in its current state.
If you've been lucky not to have your inventory deleted or experienced game breaking bugs then, lucky for you (Albert) but I've had all my items deleted for the 3rd time just in 3.9.1 and I'm currently waiting to hear back on a ticket with support to at least just credit me the now lost limited items purchased during Invictus week, which I've no doubt they will replace (I hope) but that mess around is punishing to the point of putting the game down and coming back in 3.10
I can't speak for the community, but I only get on late after the kids are down, never before 10pm tbh. Playing this game a lot since 3.9.1 and it's killed me so took Sat/Sun off :)
I agree with Sit, it really is a labour of love. I've spent 6+ hours trying to trade commodities for little gain other then reporting issues with Trading consoles that don't work (usually at outposts). We spent about 3 hours on Friday tryng to do a Merc mission where I spent most of the time dying and trying to get back to the rendezvous points. We completed the missions but never got the coin and while I was exploring the Cat wreckages the game bugged and I couldn't get back in my ship. I suicided and noticed my character just drop one of the guns on my back, now lost. Only time I've had any success is with the delivery missions which netted me a nice about of coin. But that game play loops only holds so much pull.
I can't blame anyone for not putting this game above another although I have hope for Theatres of War as that should offer a bit more of the quick 30 min action packed fun and less of a loss when things go wrong.
Missed Alberts post on the 6th. Yea, I'm totally up for doing more coop but I can't promise or even schedule time for this for reason mentioned above.
Perhaps we need to relook at the SC Leadership for those that want to continue playing? I don't know who holds what roles (image has dissappeared) but I imagine not many in the original structure are playing much, if at all?

Perhaps a couple of enthusiastic people with a little more time could bridge the gap and plan some group activities?
This is fair comment and I think I already posted elsewhere my current PC limitations, hence my absence. When that's sorted I'll appear online.
As for organising group stuff, yes we could and should make more of an effort to get groups together. Any volunteers?
I've been grinding deliveries and catching up with podcasts, so I tend to stay off comms whilst I'm listening to them.
The main problem recently has been the stability of the servers, it makes a lot of the group playing very annoying as servers drop and groups get broken up. The free flight week was an complete disaster and probably put more people off putting money into the game than anything else that could have happened.
Even though the flight week has ended, the stability of the servers is still a problem, people are actively avoiding the trading aspect of the game as the constant disconnects have lost some people hundreds of thousands of credits.
But we've persevered and I've now saved up enough in game to buy the MISC Prospector and the Helix drill head. As well as a Greycat buggy and the Jeep version, I'll be popping over to the in game ship shop later this weekend to buy the URSA Rover.
Yeah. The servers have been awful, but there is a solution. Apparently there are still some issues with the authentication servers, and even if they do manage to authenticate you, there can still be problems with them authing things like purchases. On Spectrum, a 'helper' told me about adjusting your hosts file locally to make use of the AUS/US auth servers - it doesn't impact your speed in game and it usually allows more smooth purchases (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/4/thread/european-servers-have-been-down-since-the-drake-ex - solution in here).
I've been on whenever I can be, and there are still one or two problems, but it's gradually getting there. More than willing to organise something, even if it's just adhoc missions.
Still on and off grinding deliveries but I've had the same issue with disconnections. Mostly the reconnection has worked which is fine. I did somehow lose about 150 aUEC after a series of 7 or 8 disconenctions the other night when there were a group on Discord, really strange that happened.
I'd be keen to hear ideas from the miners out there on the places to get the best rewards, as a prospector is probably going to be my purchase at 2mill. Although if it's not making anything better than 20K per hour then I may hold off.

I feel that this got lost being last comment on the previous page. Not something I can commit too so I can't complain if no one else can. But I'll try and work with the others to plan something different. A few things we've done recently:
- We've been running a few dodgy delivery missions where there is no direct QD jumps, had Gal (and a little later Lib) follow me and help with disengaging QD planet surface/orbital manoeuvre jump to reduce the distance.
- Group Patrol and learning to fight (reward is pathetic but it's fun)
- Merc Mission to clean out a space station, different experience and nice to fight on foot for a change.
A few ideas for group activities:
- aUEC Race - who can earn the most in a given time frame
- Some of the tougher Mercenary missions.
- Planet Safari / New Player System Tour - https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/g753p5/39_basic_explorers_checklist/
- Racing on a moon? (Might be able to race in 3.10.0 - Grimhex - "a scramble race feature")
- Explore the Crimestat stuff (Worth waiting until 3.10.0 for the new Law System)
-- Group Bounty Hunting
-- Play as Criminals, who can survive the longest/highest crimstat (not sure how this works)
-- Prison Game Play - Experience prison as a group, run an escape mission.
I'm sure everyone can contribute better ideas :D
Certainly up for any of those, especially since we've already done some. Theres a nice bounty hunter loop you can do to challenge yourself with...
Grimhex, pick up cs1/2 missions (they're likely to be close) head out, destroy both. Pick up more, do those. Rinse and repeat.
You'll fine you'll gradually get better at conserving ammo (if you run solid) and generally being economic between landings. I can confidently take out an Andromeda one on one. Most I've done now is an Andromeda, 3 cutlass and a couple of bucaneers and m50s. All at once, while I was in a hawk. Not going to say that was easy!
Have been playing the last couple of nights for the first time since the dog fighting module was released all those......... err years ago.
I must admit I'm extremely impressed, yeah there are bugs, things not working and crashes occurring but its it's definitely rekindled my interest incredibly. The visuals are stunning, I find myself just looking around and being gobsmacked by the level of detail in absolutely everything.
At least now there is stuff to do, group up and just generally try things, I'll see you in the verse guys :)
When the game goes live, what happens with monies earned and stuff? Partial Wipe, Full Wipe or No Wipe?
Quote from: Twyst;442334When the game goes live, what happens with monies earned and stuff? Partial Wipe, Full Wipe or No Wipe?
This article currently explains very clearly that aUEC is ALPHA UEC, I wouldn't expect to be keeping it: https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006492734-Currencies-of-Star-Citizen-UEC-aUEC-REC-Store-Credit- (https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006492734-Currencies-of-Star-Citizen-UEC-aUEC-REC-Store-Credit-)
QuoteAs a reminder, this currency is temporary and designed specifically for testing purposes. There is every chance your balance will change or reset as development continues. Loss or gains of aUEC will not affect your UEC total when the game moves out of testing into Live release.

I am reading a lot that the aUEC, ships, Global Inventory (guns, armour, ship parts) are set to be persisitent between releases in tha Alpha. It is not clear if there will be a wipe when the Beta arrives but for sure for the final release there will be a wipe.
There has been talk of rewarding players who have participated in the development period testing. So if you have assets there may be compensation for the wipe(s).
In terms of progress, for the PU there are no roadmaps on their website past 3.11 which is their Q3 2020 release, which incidentally does not look majorly ambitious and some items are already completed. Squadron 42 is averaging about the level of progress they exptected in Q1 2020, so they are 2 quarters behind with this, with the Beta originally targetted in Q4 2020, more realistic is Q2 2021.
So there is still a year I feel before we see any beta for either product, meaning lots of time to use any assets acquired in the development phases.
My understanding is in line with Sith's, that aUEC is for Alpha and will be wiped for beta. If there is to be any persistency to reward testers I believe it would be from a late beta and not from an alpha. Persistency within and alpha or within a beta is another matter!
