I'm asking for trouble here...I need a book recommendation or two. I tend to have 3 on the go at a time, one fiction, one non-fiction and one work related.
For fiction, I've just finished Wool (Howey) and could do with something else. I fancy some sci fi, but I've not really got much experience there. I've read all the Reacher type things but feel like a change of pace. For non fiction, lot's of Sinek and the like and for work, 'How to have a good day' was very good.
So...hit me up, a space opera maybe for beginners. Any self help books that are a bit normal as such.....and any non fiction about cycling the world or swimming the pacific or human achievement of some description.
Obviously....I could do with one tonight for my bed and cocoa time. :)

Wot OB said for sure - although don't read too many Hamilton back to back as you start to see the pattern than he generally employs and start to pick out which characters are the critical ones before they are revealed, which ruins the effect a bit, but reading one or two a year definitely hits the spot.
Default shout out to the entire "Culture" works of Iain M Banks - absolutely incredible, I read the entire lot through in just over a couple of months, could not put them down, and then have re-read several times since. I genuinely envy anyone who has yet to discover them.
Non-fiction - I've read the following in the last 18 months and genuinely have blown my mind - not that "achievementy" though:
Kleptopia by Tom Burgis is excellent, but also terrifyingly depressing as it uncovers a lot wrong with the state of the world. Don't read if you are already upset with our lords and masters.
The Secret Barrister if you want to have your eyes opened about the parlous state of justice in this country
Adam Kay - This is Going to Hurt - similar to the above but NHS and more humorously told.
Self help books:
Scott Adams - Goals are for Losers was quite interesting for me - didn't really buy the "affirmation" chapter but the rest was good.
The Courage To Be Disliked - might not be necessary ;)
I get through 30-40 books a year so will stop now rather than drone on :)

And a wild card for anyone with even a passing interest in rockets and space - Ignition! by John D. Clark - available for free from Gutenberg type places

I would say 'What Colour is Your Parachute" but you're probably a little old for it now. :)
I'd posit that the paperback version might be the preferred option !!!
