Can you please tell me what key you use for your PTT key?
I really just want to use a key which doesn't interfere with any other windows or programme function.
Thanks.
I use mouse 5 or middle mouse button
It's not the button I want to know it's the character or key combination you bind to that button.
I still like the USB footpedal for this and map the keypad -ve button to be activated by the pedal.
Also a lot of games and apps use v as their push to talk so remapping that is always a pretty good option, unless you want to have all these keyboard mappings available for all games then v is a valuable bit of real estate.
pretty sure "mouse 5" or "middle mouse" counts as a key press Pen :) ... it (usually) just has no printable character associated to it

...my mousewheel/middle mouse uses mouse2 binding according to discord :)
OK sounds good but I can't see how to trigger my mouse to mouse 5 - they're all predetermined :-)
They're often also forward / back, which can be a pain when using PTT and web browsing.
Keeping to this example, I think what Pen means is what could you set these to (instead of forwards / back) that wouldn't interfere with anything.
Here is a list that might be handy, I used some to get around the above issue and also to set up various toggles for monitoring software. Note that the list isn't entirely reliable as some of the shortcuts ARE already in use by certain applications, but many are not. I think the actual application at the link spits out a list of unused shortcuts, but I have never tried it -

In Discord - in settings/voice and video I click the edit key bind button and then just press (in my case) the Mouse 4 button.

The edit key bind then changes to stop recording and once pushed again locks in the key bind. That's it for me. I like that button as it's a thumb press so I can still use left and right mouse buttons plus I don't need to let go of the mouse or use my left keyboard hand. Basically you can keep moving etc while also speaking. Works for me, others mileage may differ.
Sorry, I don't think I explained myself clearly enough.
I know about the mouse keys and changing them to whatever macro/key you want to bind them to.
All I'm really asking is what bound keystroke is least likely to interfere with other pc operations when I'm using PTT and browsing for example as Chaos says. I can't just use 'mouse 5' as a keystroke. It needs to be a dedicated recognisable keystroke.
Ben, your chart helps thanks.
Thanks all!
Aha got it. I assumed you were asking about PTT in Discord which can accept any mouse button press (or any input at all from either a mouse or a keyboard) rather than a specific keystroke like Ctrl E.
Caps lock for me
Ah, I see :) ...if you do find a good button I'd be interested as it's a pita when that other game happens to use whatever key it is ... hardware button on your audio cable maybe?
Depending on your mouse drivers and OS it is potentially possible to re-map what the mouse buttons (and other buttons) get translated into - but not always so straightforward. I've only ever done that with linux and MacOS(~unix) systems at work though ...and that was just to make my evoluent vertical mouse work how I wanted it to
Slightly off topic but if anyone uses Steel Series (and I imagine other manufacturers must do similar) then the mouse software suite allows for full remapping of mouse buttons to any key combination. I've never dug that deep but individual mouse profiles can be set for specific apps. A bit more than I need but could be useful in specific circumstances.
Left ctrl
Just swivel your palm to the left to speak, and you can keep the rest of your fingers on wasd, shift, and space :)

Err, Left Ctrl is "Duck" - everyone knows that, and then Left Shift is "Walk" :boxing:

I think you will find that left-alt is duck and left-ctrl is use. Pretty sure that C is not bound to anything useful...
