Title: TV suitable for a conference room?
Post by: Penfold on July 22, 2021, 12:03:15 PM
You chaps are really knowledgeable so here goes.

I'm looking to source a TV which can be used in a conference room. It needs to be able to replicate or cast from a laptop so people can present on it but also be used for zoom / Teams calls.

The presentation part is slightly easier as I think we can just get a long HDMI cable with the relevant adapter. The zoom part is more difficult. Would it be better to just use the laptops in built zoom etc and cast that or try to get a tv with it all built in.

Size wise, I think 55" should be enough.

Thanks for any advice.

Look for ones that have chromecast built in or airplay, should work with most laptops that connect via WiFi or Bluetooth

In my office I use a 55" LCD at the end of my conference table/meeting table.
I picked up a Hisense for £200 in a Black/Prime Day sale.
I use a long HDMI cable to run it from my office PC.
I have an additional wireless cable and mouse on the conference table so I can use it direct from the table.
This means you can use the display as a main PC display (no need to cast) or you can cast to it using an HDMI plugin like a chromecast or firestick etc.  Or you can pay more for a TV with chromecast built in.
I use a Logitech BCC950 (https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/products/video-conferencing/conference-cameras/bcc950-conferencecam.960-000867.html?crid=1689) to handle all the video conferencing requirements as the Zoom/Teams/Meet all runs from my PC - or you can plug a laptop into a spare HDMI and that works too, but then you have to plug the conf cam into the laptop too. You can pick up the Logitech confcam for a lot less the MSRP and with its zoom control it can see everyone around the table and handle all the mic/speaker audio side too.

Here's an old piccie of my office with that set up.  I find it works well and it sounds like it would suit your set up too.   Give me a call if you need more info.

In the office we use google meet hardware (https://meetingdevices.withgoogle.com/#products) (which seems to be very expensive...) for the calls plus some sort of large (55" maybe?) TVs on chunky wheeled floor stands or nailed to the walls. For presenting we usually just join the meet and present to that but there are HDMI locally to the TVs too. We often use jabra speak (https://www.jabra.co.uk/business/speakerphones/jabra-speak-series/jabra-speak-410##7410-109) (410 USB ones I think) speakers for improving laptop-based calls (where decent headphones are not an option). Then there are one or two Jamboard (google-related) touchscreen screens with digital pens and the like if you want that sort of fancy stuff :)

TBH a long HDMI cable for video (neatly cabled in so it pops out the table) and a decent speaker/mic plugged into a laptop can be pretty good - risk is having a struggle to get the HDMI output working properly.

I'm trying to find a 55" TV for this.
TL suggested LCD but is LED the same?
I think I've sourced everything else.

Thanks.

The backlighting technology is different. They're similar despite this. Either would be fine!
