Title: Motherboard says no.
Post by: smilodon on February 02, 2022, 11:00:42 PM
Had to happen eventually but my 2015 built PC had finally
gone pop and the motherboard dead, so that's that. It wasn't part of my grand plan to start a new build project
but looks like I'm getting out the screwdrivers and learning about this new fangled watercooling and Non-Volatile Memory Express  ???

At least there's loads of stock about so getting parts shouldn't be a problem.

Bad luck with the pop, but good luck with the new build!  Air-cooled is cheaper, water-cooled is more fun.

Good to hear there are no problems with stock in your area, but then given where you live there's an oversupply of it, mainly the four-legged woolly variety :roflmao:

Could you knit yourself a new one? I heard biodegradeables are all the rage :)

And so the nightmare begins. I've managed to get an RTx2060 super with 12gb ram. I'm not sure if I really need
all that ram but at the moment I can't actually find a 6 gig card anywhere. So you take what you can get.

30xx GPUs seem insanely priced. 3080 for £1700 anyone! Any 3xxx card seems to be at least £750 upwards.

It might be a case of get what I can now and maybe upgrade the GPU later.

Come play Star Citizen! It'll make sure you consider a card with even more RAM :roflmao: :lmfao:

Getting bits sorted, it's very hit and miss as to what's available for a reasonable price.

I think I am creating a Frankenstein!

570 mobo, Ryzen 5900x CPU, Nvidia RTX2060 12gb, Cool Master 270 cooler, 32 GB ram.

That sounds like a rather nice Frankenstein ('s monster)!

Cheers, would have liked a bit more GPU either a 5700 which don't seem to exist, or a 6800 which are a bazillion pounds.

Google didn't return anything useful on the Cool Master 270 but the 5900x runs hot (I have one) and I had to change the cooling setup on my system to stop it shutting down from overheating.  Shutdown at 100 degrees (core) and was sitting between 80 and 90 most of the time while gaming.  This was using a MAG CORELIQUID 240R (msi.com) (https://www.msi.com/Liquid-Cooling/MAG-CORELIQUID-240R) top mounted and I had tried replacing the paste/reseating but still couldn't keep it cool enough.  After moving to the front of the case and drawing in through the rad, rather than exhausting out, it is fine but the 3900x I had previously was fine in the other configuration.  Hope this helps as took me some time to figure out.

No idea what I was typing. It's a Cool Master Master Liquid 240 system, sorry.
Thanks for the heads up about excessive heat with the 5900. I'm edging towards
getting it built by someone local I know, who builds gaming rigs for a living. To make sure
it doesn't burst into flames when I fire it up

Just ran a few Heaven Benchmarks and happy that the CPU maxed at 60 c and the GPU at 75 c. So things seem fine.

Sounds good, enjoy!

I've sent my 5900 back this week as it got stuck at a minimum of 90 c and shutting down again at 100 c.   I think I got a bad one!
Stuck my old 3600 back in and sitting at max 60 c.
