Title: Can't decide iPhone or Android
Post by: TheDvEight on December 12, 2022, 11:09:12 AM
Hi all,

I'm wanting to upgrade my mobile phone, I currently have the Samsung Galaxy s10+ which is fine but the camera is failing so time for an upgrade....

I can't decide between getting an Android phone or an iPhone, I'm looking at getting one from giffgaff as they do refurb phones for a pay monthly cost that is quite reasonable - happy to provide giffgaff refurb link if needed.

I would like to pay a maximum of 25£ per month for the phone and was looking at the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 12 pro max but I'm still undecided and was looking for some recommendations please! :) i'd like it to have the following;

At this point the only thing I will recommend are the Pixel phones due to their use of plain stock Android - no nonsense built on top of it, unlike when you get a phone by Samsung, LG, and so on.

I've owned a few Nokias (which also use stock Android) in the last few years and have enjoyed those too, but their hardware can admittedly be a bit hit or miss. Budget friendly, though.

So yes, I would look for a Pixel 6 or Pixel 7, or perhaps a Nokia if you can't find one of the former within your price range. You'd have to look at reviews of the more recent Nokia phones, I'm not sure what's what atm.

that's useful to know since my samsung phone has forced me to install some piece of rubbish called "upday" and I wasn't too keen on Apples underhandedness of the past and limiting peoples battery life with updates, i'll take a look into Pixel my brother recommended them too!

I think Motorola use the standard version of Android too if you're after another option, bought my old man one & apart from inverting the colours whilst in Canada & expecting me to be able to fix it while being 4000something miles away, not really had any issues.

i was android since day 1, (but have had  ipads since launch as i feel apple do a better tablet experience (have tried android tablets from years ago)) .

i took the plunge in October and got an iPhone 14 pro... and i love it, yes some of the "normal" apps (becomes apparent in next sentence)  aren't as good as android versions , but the face unlock is really really good. it makes a change from struggling with the under-screen fingerprint reader on my Samsung S21. Another major factor is that nearly everything in saudi is tailored towards apps, healthcare, visa services, gov services, car stuff, banks,  etc, so much more than the uk equivalents, and all linked to your saudi Id...and they are all tailored towards apple as it is by far the dominant phone in use in kingdom. Most android versions of the same apps kept crashing. So from that perspective thumbs up from me

The Pixel 7 has face unlock and it works well and quickly.   Pixel 7's fingerprint reader is now brilliant, whereas the Pixel 6 was a tad slow.  I've neem  Android since day one and still am, I just can't abide the Apple ecosphere restrictions.

I did kinda manage, I thought he'd messed with the colour blind settings though & not inverted the colours.

I thought the same about restrictions when moving to Apple, but apart from not being able to use my old Android ringtones as they are in .wav format and it won’t let you use them, I actually haven’t run into anything else… yet,on the phone.

The I watch ultra has 1 thing which annoys the crap out of me. My old Samsung s4 watch displays live HR data, the Apple Watch you have to click the icon then it opens a screen and shows you your current HR. Thing is it measures it constantly, so why can’t it display it constantly…grr
