Dead Men Walking

After several years of running the community and recognising the   continuing shift in the way we communicate as a group, both Tealeaf and   Penfold have decided it’s time to pass over the reins and step down  from  leading dMw.  We feel it’s time for some new blood to take over  and to  drive the community forward as it continues to evolve away from  the  traditional forum format into more dynamic avenues.

So, from 21^st January, we’re delighted to announce that Brother Tobious and Chaosphere   have agreed to step up into the leadership roles. They are both   invaluable members of dMw and have the skills and passion to develop and   run the community.  In due course they will appoint their own   leadership team to work with and these appointees will take on Council   roles.

The other existing Council members who provide valuable work on a   day-to-day basis will continue their work but from more of a back office   and advisory role. This mainly means Whitey who continues to do a fantastic job of looking after our server and Smilodon who looks after the forum. OldBloke   is also around and has agreed to help and support on the server side  on  an ad hoc basis.  We’ll still be around (of course) and are going to   help out as and when needed as we love dMw as much as the rest of you.

I’m sure you’ll join us in thanking Toby and Ben for taking this over and also Whitey, Smilo and Oldie for their continued work.

It has been our honour and privilege to have served as your representatives for so long, thank you.

The 2023 dMw Survey

With the changing of the guard at dMw, we thought this was a good opportunity to ask YOU, the people that make the community what it is, what you WANT from dMw going forwards. Help us steer the community in the right direction!

The survey should take around 10 minutes, more if you write us essays in the free text elements - which is happily encouraged!

No questions are mandatory, and all responses are ANONYMOUS. There is an 'Other' option for most of the questions where you can input FREE TEXT if desired.

PLEASE submit ONLY ONE complete form. If you finish your   form and decide you want to add to it, you should be able to do so by   simply revisiting the link from the SAME DEVICE you started on.

Tell us what you really think! Don't hold back and be as open and honest   as you can be! We can't hope to improve anything if we don't know what   needs improving!

As for the news itself, I can only echo what others have said and offer up a huge thank you to all of the time and effort Pen and TL have put into dMw over the years.

Thanks too for all of the support given by those members of Council who have in the past or are now stepping into more behind the scenes roles - the essential nuts and bolts work that keeps us going!

dMw would not be the community that I love were it not for all of the effort put in by you all in the past.


Big shoes to fill, Toby and I will do our best to help steer the ship in the right direction. PLEASE when you have some time help us achieve this by going through the survey!

I've started writing this sentence five times now, and I can't come up with anything that conveys my feelings better than what Whitey said (:ranting2::D). Thanks Pen and TL!
Also thanks to the aforementioned Whitey, who along with Smilo and OldBloke have been pottering around the garden shed making sure stuff was working when we needed it.
(We still need you to keep doing it, so no resting on these laurels!)

Hope to still see you all at the LAN's, perhaps even more now that you can enjoy instead of work!

Just a bit of an observation about the survey. It actually is not possible to go back and change the initial content put in there as all setions are cleared.

I wanted to add an additional suggestion so may as well add it here:

Council appoints a community lead from outside the UK with the purpose of representing (particularly at LAN time) the travelling members of the community.

I wonder why that is happening. It should be saving your answers for you to return to, at least on the same device. It seems to save them for a few hours but then they vanish as you have said. Weird! I suspect this has something to do with the form not collecting emails - which we didn't want it to do so people knew it was truly anonymous!

What I will do is quickly set up an additional form for any further free text comments - just so people can add anything they might want to in an anonymous fashion after the main forum has been completed.

I don't dare change much else with the form for fear of breaking what we have so far!

We will have some more information to share at the weekend, I'll answer it properly then!
