There will be an update to Steam this Wednesday beginning at approxamately 6:00am PST. Steam will be unavailable for the duration of the update, which is expected to last three hours.

This update will include the changes previously mentioned:

Offline Play
Account validation (via e-mail)
A new Half-Life 2 hardware survey

The Steampowered.com website will be avilable during the downtime window, and will be updated as status changes.

Although timings look favourable for play on Wednesday evening, expect servers to be conspicuous by their absense.  <_<

Funny thing is I noticed that almost immediately because I was fiddling. I didn't give it much thought and put it back to the correct setting and had no problems.  :coolio:

It says:
QuoteLaggy server connections after update
If your lag has significantly increased after the update then do the following.

Right click on the steam icon in the system tray and choose the "settings" option. Then click on the "Internet" tab and verify the speed that is selected is correct. If it is not then choose the correct speed and then hit the "OK" button.

There was a bug causing it to be reset to modem speed when we release the update for some people, which would in turn cause extra lag.
HTH?
