Actually they did but it is at US workhours. 9 a.m. PST is workhours for most americans ... steam being american based it is quite natural it is done according to their timetable.

Then they should make a Euroserver aswell. Why do those pesky Americans only think about themselves.  :( I'm up for some CS. Now I'll play XIII again.

OB, TL or whoever ends up updating the servers and of course anyone else who runs a Linux server.

They have changed the syntax of the Linux 'steam' command.

Have a new script ready with:-

./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir -username -password -verify_all

You can also bolt on a -remember_password if you are updating multiple mods and perform just ./steam -command update -game for the rest.

This is as far as I've got, it updated the update tool and then failed on the rest of the update because of the new syntax. Since then I have not managed to connect to a content server for the rest of the updates.

Keeps telling me it is unable to connect to 207.173.177.19:27032. Hey ho, I'll just keep trying! Also trying to update the Windoze client files with no luck!  :(

See, if they had the foresight to tell people what on earth is going on there wouldn't be these problems. If they simply said "There's a xxMb patch coming up on Wednesday, and it will require x, y, and z extra action" instead of "there's a steam update coming" then we'd not all be wanting their heads on pikes.

Yeah went in on offline mode... all you can do is change some settings...

Another strange error was that a Steam error message said my internet connection is not configured correctly for steam to use ???? In offline mode you can change your connection types, but none have worked so far...

And if you exit offline mode you cannot go " offline"  again until you connect to the network...

Maybe the ONLY reason I went offline was because I cannot go ONLINE

Talk about being screwed..... Anyone  else managed to sort this one out ??

You will not be able to use Steam until you can connect to the Steam network again. For support please visit steampowered.com.

******* are they talking about

i never used the exit and logout button.
And if i have to wait untill i can connect to the so called Steam network then i can wait for how many years? 200 or so.....

QuoteYesterday's Update & Today's DDOS Attack
March 4, 2004, 3:12 pm · Greg Coomer

This morning at about 8:30 PST, Steam was hit by a distributed denial of service attack. For about two and a half hours, Steam and its games were unavailable to users. We have since fixed the problem, and player numbers have returned to a normal state.

Steam's content servers are still busy with yesterday's update, but for the most part Steam users have been able to get up and running without problems.

The new email validation feature has been causing some users confusion. Our network problems have caused the validation emails to be delivered too slowly -- if you are waiting to receive your automated email response from Steam, please give it some time. We're sorry if this is causing inconvenience; the delivery speed will be improved soon.
Taken from the Steam news website. Looks like somebody finally got Td off enough with Steam to blast them. Will explain some but not all of the login/connect problems.
