One of the things a recent patch (I think it was about a month ago) did to HL was enable the use of detail textures in HL, in preparation for CZ. Detailtextures are just small repeating textures overlaid over the main textures to try to break down any repetitions and also to make them look higher-res.
It's not an official feature as-yet, but the clever people on the NS forum and at Valve ERC figured out how to use them, and I figure that since I'm a wee bit bored I might try to set up some detailtextures for CS (though I've picked the worst time ever to try as I'm busybusybusy for the next month). So far all I've got is a bit of a test version for piranesi, but here it is if you want to see what I'm on about.

-no readme, and the zip was hastily constructed I'm afraid. The "gfx" folder should go into your base cstrike directory (within steamapps) - it'll put a folder called "detail" in there alongside the already-existing "env". the text file needs to go into your maps folder.

To activate detailtextures you'll need to enter "r_detailtextures 1" in the console. This feature isn't suported by all gfx cards and drivers, so if Steam can't find that cvar I'm afraid you're out of luck.
Does anyone have any requests for which map they'd like me to work on this for?

:withstupid: Kinda set yourself up for that one mouse!!
I've been on with making "snipertowers2" map all day and had nothing but problems with draw distance, so i will have a look at it later as all i wanna do now is play the damn game.
Works with my geforce4. Very nice indeed.
