Hi, recently my Net has been getting really really slow to the point where im unable to play cs. When i thought about it, it started to slow down when i installed F@H. when i looked into it, i found that im being re-routed (hopped) through Kingston. I was wondering if there was anything i can do to stop this?
thnx
Karl
Yeah... it could be this whatever it is our connection has gone t1ts up over the last few months. And its starting to get to me. Especially when even when one of us is playing cs we often lag.
When we used to be able to have 2 users on the ISDN somtimes even with Ventrillo running.
Is there anyway to find out if somthings leeching our conn ? stop a rerouting ?
im v. p155d off :(
Its really strange as the ping fluctuates. Very playable then randomly unplayable.
You would think maybe when more players are dead it would get better etc.
But the fluctuation is just so random. 50 to 300-500 in no time.
Its KIND OF ok with 4 people on each team MAX. But we used to be able to run 8 players on each team fine :/
if no one knows how to fix it, anyone know where we can go to get some help? cos its getting annoying. I dont understand it even more because download speeds and openign up web pages r still the same :/
Hold on.
Let me get this straight, since you installed Folding (which I think is unlikely the cause) your routing goes a different path?
I would be impressed if someone has done a job on your conn to make it take a different path through the internet, that's not the way it works.
I assume you are talking about traces to deadmen? If so the best thing you can do is post your traces up so we can all take a look, anyone in similar areas can compare and see where you are maxing out. The last few weeks there has been a lot of work in Telehouse and I know BT have shifted a lot of circuits.
You need to isolate the point of loss and work backwards.......
Have a look in the 'but seriously' topic,.
As Benny said, F@H will not have done anything to your routing. Check with your provider to see if they have made any changes recently.......
As Benny said, use Pingplotter or similar and post your traceroutes for us to have a look at.
Topic transferred to But Seriously....
TL.
I've just re-read my post. I need to rephrase it. Your routing won't be dictated by any software on your box. You have a default gateway, and that's it. The rest is the wonderful world of BGP and the internet (unless you get particularly clever)
From a command prompt, just run
tracert //www.deadmen.co.uk > test.txt
leave it for a bit, then open the file and paste the contents here. Or omit the > test.txt and paste directly from the command prompt..

Sorry about the delayed reply, ive been away for a bit. I just did the tracert again and i get these different results. Hopefully everything will be ok now and it was just a small problem which has been updated :D Ta for hte help anyway, if anything changes ill keep u updated :D
Karl
That trace is the shortest I've ever seen, you should have the best latency out of all of us!
Problem is there is a cubic buttload of LAG in that trace starting at the very first hop, which I reckon is that little box of pretty twinkling lights that plugged into your phone socket.
thats my point exactly :'( and im using a ISDN PCI card - Eicon DIVA 2.01 (means nothing to me).

u saying htat its the box which needs updating or something?
he is saying that the problem lies with your first hop into planet.net.uk
You need to get in touch with either your ISP or whoever supplies the ISDN line and tell them of your problem and get them to look at it. Ping times of a second on your first hop will not be helping your gaming experience although file transfer and web browsing may appear ok.
HTH?
ok, ill get in touch with them soon to get this sorted cos its very annoying. Cheers for the help.
ive just traced it again as i relised that i was updating steam at the time (doh!)

As u can see its considerably lower now, so i cant see any probs :/
Yup, that trace looks fine to me :)
