Yep - I'm afraid I won't be playing CS (or anything else for that matter) for the foreseeable future, as my PC decided to pack up last night :(
First it started rebooting randomly. Then when it came back up again it couldn't start the onboard NIC properly. Uninstalled/reinstalled NIC driver with no joy. Then went to BIOS to enable the other onboard NIC to see if that worked. After exiting BIOS setup, it then refused to POST
So it's dead Jim. I suspect a CPU/Memory/Motherboard fault, but am going to have to strip the system right down until I can nail down what's wrong with it.
See you all back on the 'hook when I get the thing up and running again.
:( Bugga.
Hope it is something trivial that yuo can fix cheaply :)
c u soon :)
Thats not right!!
Good luck fixing it and see you back on the hook soon.
sorry to hear that m8.............thats another man i wont be killing
Woohoo - I'm back in business :)
It turned out to be the battery for the CMOS that was undervolting and causing it to pass corrupt parameters to the BIOS chip. Apparently this is quite common on Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboards, and can lead to what has affectionately been labelled "BIOS Death" whenever you attempt to save changes in the BIOS.
Replaced the battery for the princely sum of £2 and it miraculously sprang in to life again. Unfortunately I had to strip & rebuild the entire PC this evening to diagnose that little fault, so it was a little too late in the day to shoot anybody on the 'Hook tonight - but then there's always tomorrow  :)
And Friday nights always rock on the servers :D
TL.
Good man - a solid piece of troubleshooting :)
Now get on the server and shoot Ron. That'll be another piece of trouble shooting :D
:lmfao: :lmfao: Nice one BB
