If you want to download the next Counter-Strike update as soon as it's released then you'll have to use Valve's Steam delivery system

It's a pain in the ar*e for everyone. I just tried it and it didn't work too well. Being fair it's a beta. But they only advise to use it if you are on broadband. So there must be another way for the rest of the internet to use.

In response to my email complaining about login difficulties I received this reply. Make of it what you will.

Hi,

The Steam 2.0 beta test will start shortly so just wait until that testing starts if you can.

When we release Steam 2.0 and start the CS 1.6 beta we will ask all of our testers to reestablish their accounts. We will clear the account database as part of the testing. Everything currently in the database will be cleared.

We have improved the process for establishing an account in Steam 2.0. You will not need a "Special Offer Key". You will download a new Steam.exe and run it. During the start up process you will be asked to enter a user name, password, and email address. This will create your new account.

Steam 2.0 will be live shortly so we recommend that you wait for it to go live. You do not need your Steam 1.0 account information/password.

Please watch //www.steampowered.com for information regarding the beta.

Mike

In ultra-modern Milton Keynes I can;t get broadband, so I hope I can do something steam-wise with ISDN.  But as Tut said, if is going to be a right PITA for all us narrow-banders.  :(

I think that these Steam blokes will notice when the amount of "players online" drop with more than 50%. Then they will take their heads out of their asses and release the full normal update very quickly.

Steam doesn't work with Linux.  Guess what is the most popular OS for running servers?

What a bunch of arsemuppets... :x

I can't believe MK doesn't have ADSL!!!! But I suppose if you have the best town to drive into and out of for its size in the UK you can't complain. I am one of the people who like MK a lot!! OK it's not an old English Hamlet but it has everything and how often do you go see the old English stuff in old towns anyway... But no broadband, that is bad. I think it may be because it's well spread out.

I think the first new PC mags will have CS 1.6 on there.

Isn't MK laced with Dark Fibre? Get your drill out, jump in.
