Title: Conn prob
Post by: Phog on March 25, 2004, 08:18:57 PM
Lo,
just got back to try and play cs and it is fine. then i restarted my pc after installing a program to find that steam cannot connect to server. ive restarted like 5 times now, done the clientregistry.blob several times and still no luck. ive waited like 5 hours now to see if they were just having some probs whihc i would hope they could fix in that time (knowing steam though i should over-estimate them).
Was just wondering if anyone knows how to get round this?
Tried with 2 other comps in the house and they work fine (using the same conn that is) so i cant see it being my connection.
Any ideas?
Thnx
 Karl :'(

The Error is:
Could not Connect to Steam Network.
This could be due to a problem with your Internet Connection, or with the Steam Network. Please visit //www.steampowered.com for more info.

It is NOT a prob with my connection cos the other 2 comps using the same conn can connect perfectly. Ive deleted the clientregistry.blob etc. ive reinstalled steam and that didnt work. (just means ive lost all of my Mods, bloody annoying)

Im a bit unhappy atm with steam. i think ive just gotta sit back and wait for Valve to release another update.

Can you ping //www.steampowered.com from the affected PC?

How are you going to get the update if you can't connect to steam?

Are you running a firewall of any sort? If so try turning it off and seeing if steam will connect then. Does everything else on the computer that normally connects to the internet work ok i.e. email and internet explorer?

No i cant ping steam from this PC. Everything else works fine, MSN, hotmail, everything = no probs. I am running NIS 2004 Pro, but ive set that to allow steam full access and ive tried with it disabled anyway. It does the updates, like if u delete the clientregistry.blob it will redl it. Hopefully that'll mean i will be able to get the updates.

normally when there is an update I have to restart steam 20-30 times before it lets me download all the way.
