lo all,
im developing a website using php/mysql and it has heavy use of sesions and serialized objects.
Im just wondering what the implications are under alot of hits. The server we have is a dual 3gig p4 1 gig ram beast with plenty of bandwidth.
The reason i ask is that i havent had a chance to test it on alive server, just running localhost.
that reminds me, does anyone know of any good php stress testing gear? for the site not just testing the server.
cheers all, i dont expect any answers, i dont even know if we have any php'ers here?

you may be better off asking on forums.devshed.com (http://forums.devshed.com/) that's where I go if I need to find anything php related.
Although I'd think you'd have to work it very hard before it fell over...ohh errr.
I've run a few php/mysql websites.
If poss make sure to use persistent mysql connections in php. RAM is very important and you seem to have a lot of it so I think you'll be ok even on a fairly heavy loaded site.
That server does not run as a game server as well does it? if it does you *may* notice the hit on the game server.
no this is strictly a work only server.
It will be running a number of e-comerce sites by the end of the year. Or the end of April if the boss has his way :/ and i had no life.
Its all great experiance for my first major IT project.
cheers for replys, ive booked marked devshed. ILl let you know how this project is going when we start to use the live server.
