Title: uploading done WU problems
Post by: Jamoe on April 18, 2004, 09:25:06 AM
hi all,

having a few problms uploading finished projects.

Quote
[09:20:19] - Uploaded at ~3 kB/s
[09:20:19] - Averaged speed for that direction ~6 kB/s
[09:20:19] - Unknown packet returned from server, expected ACK for results
[09:20:19] - Error: Could not transmit unit 07 (completed April 10). Keeping unit in queue.

[09:20:19] + Attempting to send results
[09:20:19] - Reading file work/wuresults_08.dat from core
[09:20:19]  (Read 1294711 bytes from disk)
[09:21:34] Opening http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage?q=Jamoe (http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage?q=Jamoe)...
[09:22:05] Couldn't send HTTP request to server (wininet)
[09:22:05] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[09:22:05]   (171.64.122.119:8080)
[09:22:05] - Error: Could not transmit unit 08 (completed April 13). Keeping unit in queue.
[09:22:05] + Sent 0 of 2 completed units to the server
[09:22:05] - Autosend completed

This is the main error im getting. I have 2 in the queue waiting togo.

Another problem I seem to have is that if im already conneted to the net and I start the "folding at home" program it appears to disconnect me (ISDN no router), although it doesnt remove my network icon from the task bar. If I try and find a webpage it always fails to resolve (firefox).

My configuration for f@h is to use IEs connection settings, I'm also using ZA and both the F@h and fore have permissions todo everything. They also have permission to use other programs to access the internet.

I've even turned ZA off to see if I can upload but it doesnt appear to work. Although im going to try again in a bit.

One thing to note thougth, if I open IE and try to view the internet options from the tool menu it prompts an error message saying "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this machine". It never done this befor, but it seems to have started happening since I ran "adware6" and "search and destroy".

I have had these problems befor but i seemed to be able to fix them in the past by tweaking zonealarm. I added certain IPs to the zone in ZA which appeared to work.

Im going to carryon search the forums at f@h ill post this there if i have no luck here :)

Cheers all

Jamoe

EDIT:

Managed to get my WU uploaded. I turned off my firewall and stopped "Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)"

Didnt have any problems uploading. Ive turned both back on.

:D

EDIT 2:

Hmm, still having these problems.  i have about 4-5 Projects ready to upload but its not even trying to upload them now :/  grrr

I will have a play tonight and see if i can make some progress.

on a positive side note, work has just had the new server installed so we will be getting Broadband very soon.  I shall be going around all the PCS and hopefully get a chace to install folding on them all

It is just possible that the server at Stanford is down, but not likely for that many projects.  I use ZAP and also ISDN and have no problems.  So it seems more likely that it is Microsoft or something else at your end.  If you run ZAP then I would turn off the MS firewall as a starting point.  If the whole Stanford IP block is allowed in your ZAP rules or the F@H client has authority to acceess internet and act as a server then you should have no problems.  Other than that I am at a loss as to what to suggest....sorry.  :(

well this is a bit stranger.

i connec to the net, then opened my folding@home client

i then decided to ping one of the servers that i was trying to upload too. i got 2 packets back but the last 2 failed.  Even this forum times out. Its like the folding client disconnects me :/. i have to disconnect then reconnect befor i can acces anything :/

and by that time the client has gave up trying.

I had these queues up for ages now, getting on for a week.

i guess ill keep trying untill my queue is full.

yea, through out the day i do, but the client only atempts to send stuff when u first start it or its finished a project and needs to dl more.

Definatly something up with my PC thats causing this. But i cant figure out what :/

maybe i can stick the finished projects on a disk and take them to work to send :D

F@H version 4 is the current version.  It will attempt to resend WUs more regularly than this, it attempts a send on a periodic basis *and* when ever the client downloads or uploads another WU.  Are you using the F@H4 client?

Turn off the firewalls and delete the ZAP permissions for F@H as they may have (un unlikely) corrupted.  Then use the new ZAP alerts to reconfigure the permisisons for it to act as a server and have internet access.  You should not need to put the Stanford IP block into the trusted zone.  It should not need a proxy unless you have a proxy set up on your PC.

And yes you can send them from another machine, check the F@H forums for details (I have never done it myself).
