Title: cs_waterside
Post by: Anonymous on May 09, 2004, 09:17:46 PM
cs_waterside is a lovely map full of possibilities. From CT spawn there are a multitude of attack permutations. However, these all end at the house so the Ts objective is really to defend a point objective (the house) so the map should be OK with small or large teams.

CT Spawn looking left (1 high, 1 low (by tree) and 1 straight approach to house)

CT Spawn looking right (another straight and another high (see rope) approach to house)

House at end of left high approach

Underneath house at end of left low approach

House at end of left straight approach

House at middle of right high approach

House at end of right high approach

both the Ts and the CTs can get onto the roof however Ts will have to be fast or they will get picked off :)

It looks like a fun map, scope for rushing, scope for sneaking, scope for delaying and diversionary attacks and lots of places to be ambushed.

Have a look and let me know what you think. The only downside is the size of the download file (26 Mb unzipped so if you join my server you better have a fast connection).

If you have a slow connection you may wish to cosider the zip file (http://files.filefront.com/2154498) which is a slightly better 14Mb.

I love it, but does it suit TCS? I think so but let's hear your opinions :)

Looks good. I'm DL'ing now.

While I'm waiting ....

How does the inside work out? Is it too easy for the Ts to camp the hossies?

Warning:
I had a dialler and a nasty exe file pop up whenI went to the zip link.  Eventually after closing all the windows I got back to the filefront download and insitiated the download of the map file called cs_waterside.zip.

Be careful out there.

Well, a lovely map with a couple of major flaws :(

There are a couple of spots where you get frame drop and there is an area at back left of house (as seen from CT spawn) where the two teams become invisible to each other. It is a shame as otherwise it could be a great TCS map.

Wonder if we can get the author to fix it or give us the mapfiles for Smite to play with :)

/|\ He's said it all really. No particular bias as far as I could see. Shame about the glitches.

add the disappearing bit by the waterfall, the hottub, and the inescapable (nearly) hottub antics and you're laughing.

Burn it, kill it, then drown it.

There's another disappearing area on the other side of the house too, unfortunately. Entities are badly optimised too, leading to bad choke for me.

/me is picky

Don't forget that a/some T spawn point/s are outside the 'buy' area.

Wasn't aware of that - I'll send a further email. Thanks Ron

also when on the right of the step shooting ppl over the otherside of the steps bullets do not hit enemies this is the area immediately above the step. To add one ct rescue point by the falls is not marked on the ground:) other than that can't find any others probs (mayb the hottub needs some steps added or less steep sides) I did find tht if i look up slightly and jump out it works but tht is a flaw and i agree with benny!

I have to get back on this one.

I havn't found any problem exept for the fps dropping in the map.
But i only played it with 3/1 2/1 against me on T i have only played for ct 3 rounds or so but not seen anything wrong with the map.

But i think you ahve to play the map with large numbers.

As t you have it very easy if you are alone because you have many places to go and protect the hossies but then again ct's have many ways to get in.

I think BB and Maus can tell you more how they liked the map ;)  with comming into the house or getting out

I'm not an admin, but there is no way that a flawed map is going to get in the rotation. Especially when the flaws affect the gameplay, invisible players is kinda limiting to gameplay.

Who ever said it was going into the rotation? Did you really think that we would put a flawed map into the rotation?

The map was put on Homer to test it. We tested it and found it severely wanting! I have emailed the author of the map with our findings in the (apparently) vain hope that he might want to fix his map. The map could be a classic TCS map but not in it's present state.

Smite said he can fix maps if he gets the raw files. Inicedentally I agree it would make a good map. Reminds me of shogun for some reason.
If he could be arsed... but is the map worth it?

I have had a quick play and think not.

Lets look for another.

Well even if it is a bit raw its a gr8 map visually and with more oppurtunities than others we have in cycle such as dust which have become repetitive
Err, Dust is not in the rotation.

With map flaws that render peeps invisible it is *not* getting into the rotation.  And that's a shame because it is a nice map, but it's not yet finished.
