Title: An experiment
Post by: OldBloke on November 02, 2002, 01:01:22 PM
In an attempt to please all of the people all of the time I am going to try an experiment.

Team selection has been a combo of skill and rotation. This was a decision of the clan some time ago. However, with our numbers almost doubled there is now scope to experiment with a 2-tier team selection policy. Note the use of the word 'experiment'.

I am going to introduce the concept of match 'squads'.

There will be two squads. In keeping with the Deadmen theme they will be known as Zombies and Ghosts.

The Zombies will consist of the 8 best players in the clan as voted by the clan themselves. Those left will form the Ghosts.

Both squads will elect a leader and deputy from within their ranks.

Ghosts will continue to play in Enemy Down with the fixtures being arranged by the Ghost Leader.

Zombies will represent the clan in ClanBase (it is not possible to have two teams within ED) and all cup/league competitions. The Zombie leader will arrange their fixtures.

Members can play for either squad but not to the exclusion of an available squad member.

Audience participation time:

All members must PM me with their 8 Zombie nominees. You must also specify if you wish to be considered for Zombie membership. The final 8 will be those members voted by the clan who are willing to stand. You may NOT vote for yourself. All votes will be treated as strictly private.

There will, inevitably, be lots of issues to be addressed and these will be dealt with as and when they arise.

Suggest you are not allowed to vote for yourself?

as long as you don't forget to vote for yourself 8O  it wont make a difference

I agree with Blue Ball, because some may have a lower estimation of their skill than is actually true, and wont vote for themselves.

Agreed. Good point.

I've amended the post above.

If you've already submitted your nominations and have included yourself then please re-submit.

Out of 25 clan members it's difficult to pick just 8 and the newer memebers (e.g. me) will not know what some of the less active players are like. So we can only include those whom we have played with.
Can I suggest another method?

We all pick out our top 15 and place them in order 1 to 15.

Then for every 1st place vote cast for a member, he gets 15 points right down to the 15th place member who will get 1 point. The total points acumulated are then added up after all the votes are cast and the top 8 become Zombies!

This way some of the players who only the older clan members know more about get a chance, otherwise the most regular players are going to get all the votes and a possible star might be missed out.

... and now it is time for double Jeopardy. The categories are, Potent Potables, A Petit Dejeuner, TheRapists, ...

Sheesh Albert!  :D  I had trouble picking 8 ppl. I think 15 ppl and ranking them is way too much to ask from all of us. I think OB will have enough work ahead of him with 24 PMs and 8 ppl in each message.

My five,

good idea albert. but a would have trouble with 15. top 6 would be better

Maybe this is still too complicated. It's all very well picking our top whatevers but if they're not available for matches where do you go from there? Perhaps we should utilise what is a good idea(registering your availability) coupled with picking the best possible team from that selection. We all know, or at least, reckon who are the best in this clan. This vote would probably throw up the same names. Anyone wanting to fight wars would have to fight for a place on that team. The rest of us(speaking for myself) would be happy with getting our jollies fighting as Ghosts. I think the 'Ghosts' concept is a first class idea.

Wouldn't want your job OB :(

If those are your votes then:

(A)  You need to PM them to Oldie not post them to the forum - but what the heck, at least the people you didn't vote for now know to TW occassionally just for kicks   and
(B)  You can't vote for yourself, so remove that Sadako chap and put someone else's name down instead  :D

First off, there is a mandatory health warning that needs to be issued for anyone found to be quoting themselves on the forum.  Put your analyst on Danger Money Sadako...

Second, I draw to your attention the so-called 'Aga-defence' and claim that I die early for the good of my team.  Many a time I divert your attention, you kill me and someone else on my team kills you  :D  Seriously though, I don't think stats are a great way of picking the team - just think about the skew that is put on the stats for someone on the server early, playing a small map (even if it is restricted to one site or something) and being on the 'wrong side' for that map - they massacred 15-3 when all they are doing is treading water waiting for other players to arrive on the server.  That happens quite alot - end result one player too high, the other too low.

Thirdly, yes you have killed me too many times recently - we'll have to agree to either play on the same side or take to different parts fo the map to avoid each other.  After all, I can't keep supporting your stats forever by giving you all those 'treading water' kills now can I?   :D

TL.  8)

Third, I am big enough to take a lot of flack.  Except I wasn't expecting the flack to be gun fire

I agree with you fully. I picked my eight guys from both being teamplayers and being good with the gun. Stats don't say a whole lot about the game and usually just f**ks up people and they play foolishly just to improve their stats.

Quote

Well actually I don't think I have killed you that much. There was one evening when I seemed to hit and kill you no matter what. After that I think that both of us have been focusing to much on each others kills of each other and that is why we think there have been massive killing of each other.

Stats like awp's are for little girls with a bag of kittens who like knitting. (this has been toned down to save offence !! 8O )
no indication can be had from who has killed the most to who is the most effective team member 1 example is all that is needed, apologies in advance to DW !! . my list is in nuff said.

I also must agree with FB, number of kills do not signify the best team players. Anyone can buy an AWM, find a comfy snipe spot and slowly kill the opposition. But they may never plant the bomb, defuse the bomb, touch a hossie or even know if/ where any of the above exist.
Nuff said methinks, common opinion.
