i have been informed by a friend that u cannot burn avi or mpeg files to dvd! So i wasa wondering if you know of a free avi/mpeg to dvd converter plus how long does it take to convert the files?
Please Note this is for legal files not illegal
How long depends on the horsepower under your computer lid. My old PC took overnight for 2 hours, and my new one is almost 1:1 or better.
The programs that come with your DVD burner *should* be able to do the conversion, most come with Ulead or the like.
There are various paths you can take to get to where you want to go and I can carry on the discussion more in depth if needed, but let me approach it this way, which is solely based on My Humble Opinion:
Is the media you are going to convert DVD quality to begin with?
Probably not. If not, be sure to investigate DVD Lo Resolution (see TMPEnc below, it allows for this). Cram near 6 hours onto one DVD. Why go 720 res if your source isn't hi-qual. Making a bigger read of a small piece of crap only results in a piece of crap that isn't any prettier, but takes up more room.
Check out All Guides at http://www.videohelp.com/ (http://www.videohelp.com/) (which is DVDRHELP.com and maybe even VCDHELP.com now):
http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=4#4;10 (http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=4#4;10) Would be a good place to read. That list points over to Doom9 which always has an answer and links to great freeware tools.
Great basic tools to have:
Tmpgenc Encoder (w/30day mpeg2 capability) http://www.tmpgenc.com/ (http://www.tmpgenc.com/)
See tutorial: http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm (http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm)
Virtualdub: http://www.virtualdub.org/ (http://www.virtualdub.org/)
Excellent freeware for AVI manipulation.
Virtualdubmod: http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/ (http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/)
Another program I use is DVD Shrink, which helps if I'm converting massive amounts of VHS to DVD and overshoot my 4.7GB barrier. It allows you to recompress by %, so it helps squeeze things in if needed.
A quality reply with top resource info. GJ Rabbi Bob.
