Title: PS2 lens missalignment
Post by: Cannon Fodder on May 31, 2004, 03:27:06 PM
Ok, for the past several months, my PS2 has had a lens missalignment. I know this cuz i must turn my PS2 on its side (vertical) to use my AR and for most DVDs. I read that if u turn it vertical, it helps... And it does but its getting wrose. Some DVDs like Paycheck, Johny English, and a few others I've rented wont work. It keeps comming up with disk read error.

Has anyone else had this issue? My PS2 is about 3 1/2 to 4 years old so its about time some problems arise....

Could someone help me fix this issue? I know I could take it to a store and they could fix it but i dont have much $$$ ATM. Should i open it up and dust it? I've heard some ppl doing that and it helped them but i want to do that as a last try....

Anyone?

First of all, Google is your friend! Try that first.
Second of all, my PS2 is modded and I never had any problems with it what so ever. The best thing to do is open it up from time to time and check for dust (no, not de_dust). Clean it up once in a while and you should be fine.

open it up... like take out the screws, then how should i remove the dust? blow on it or use a washcloth... Last thing I want to do is fry it... it cost my $250 (remember, i bout it 4 years ago)

ill check google... and i know for a fact its a missalignment cuz it has the disk read error always comming up with my Action Replay Max and certain DVDs. At the codejunkies fourm (ARs offical site) the support one says that thats the couse, and putting it vertical helps it... Just like what i do...

last thing I want to do is send my PS2 to sony, spend 100 or so bucks when i could just buy a X box and get Halo 1+2.

Anyone ever had this problem b4?

Ok i am not very good in this area of hardware but all i know is DO NOT OPEN UR PS2! as it voids warranty! but as you've gone past that period it doesn't matter! Ok all i can suggest is look on ps2 forums sites etc and find the answer! Other than that ring up sony they are always very helpful and won't bite your head off! As ppl you know for ppl who know things about ps2's

In all be careful

Waranty? I bought it on Ebay.  ;) You can take the case apart (if you do it correct), I allways use a light compressor for it so it blows the dust out just a little bit. You wont get everything out but okay.

For the rest: I'm more likely to go for the PS3 then for X-box.

Yeah wouldnt open it i was wondering if i could swap my hd in my xbox with a new one, so that i could put "my games" onto it so i wouldnt need the disks, but it didn't like the new hd i tried to put it back how it was. Now it makes a strange noise when i try to use it still works tho  :D  But buy an x-box remember halo 2 comes out soon  ;)

Ill search the fourms but I also think its the lens thin b/s the older version thing...

Havnt tried the adapter... Its a scam really... Only online game i would play would be FFXI but listen to this. on ps2, the adapter is $40, game is $100, monthy fee for game is $14, and internet service for PS2 is like $30 or so a month, USB keyboard $15, USB mouse $15...

For PC... Game: $50. monthy fee for game: $14.  Internet fee: $35, Better performance: free

which would you choose? So i dont have it... If I had a XBOX I would do that X direct thing... (free) Ill look... Im guessing im gonna have to wait a year or so and get a PS3...

lol

in UK we get the adapter for 20£.

already got internet conection.

and id play games like need for speed underground and Tony Hawk. Neither of which i would bother with on my PC. (are they even available on the pc?)

so it wouldnt really cost anything more then just the adpater., cause id only play games  i would buy for single player :D

I suppose it depends in what games ur into.

much rather buy a gamecube tbh

blowing stuff up and shooting stuff gets boring. Bring out mario party or some zelda.

The PS2s are known for having badly focused lenses as the first thing you need doing when its been chipped is have the lense refocused!

PS I love my PS2 too much to chip it, chipping is bad.... mmmokayyy.

Any audio store can focus a CD lense, so go get it done properly.

I personally would never buy a gamecube... they have few rated T or M games. And for somereason they are always the best... GTA, Red Dead Revolver, Tony Hawk, Midnight club...

I went on google and looked at a few sites... A lil too complicated for me and Im not bout to risk my skills with something so fragil... Once I get back from working at this summer camp Im gonna be working at, ill probally wil take it somewhere cheap...

But looking at pricing, I have the older version of PS2. The one that cant read certain DVDs and is just generally wrose then the 2.0s.. It would cost me bout half the price of buying a new PS2 just to get one issue fixed... I dunno... I may just buy a new one.. Maybe get one of those online bundles.... I dunno but do they have wireless adapters that I could just send my cable internet to? I have a wireless LAN through my house already....

And I could even save half price on buyin a new one by buying this one on ebay too... HURRAY FOR EBAY!

Who knows... alot of things i want  to buy when I get back... Including BattleField 1942...

The only network expansion I know of is wires only.
