Or lack of it to be more precise.

You can listen for the enemy much more easily if you're not straining to hear footsteps thru' the background noise of crickets, birds, guitars etc.

So top tip ...

Add stopsound to your buyscript.

Why the hell didn't I think of that before?

CHEATING? EEEK  8O

Nah. It's not. I think. Errr. Is it?

All it does is stop all 'atmosphere' sound effects. That's OK innit?

Bloody hell. Now look at what you've started Smitey. I'm all discombobulated. :?

I personally think this is an engine exploit. Like a no recoil script or a silent run script (now defunct in 1.5)

The sounds are there for atmosphere, true. But in the real world we can't stop background noises.

Anyway, it works both ways, we can use the sounds to sneak up on people too!!

I think some sounds are a real pain in the ears I suppose, like that damn radio on Italy or like I've found this week, that Alo Alo song on France.
I think we all get sick of music but I tend leave sounds on like the thurnder on Aztec which are atmospheric. Either way the user can stopsound and it's not down as a hack or a cheat on all the CS cheat prog web pages so I think at this point in time, stopsound is fine. In PCS I think we should be allowed to stop the annoying music but not any other sounds.

Models tend only to make the game look pretty, especially supermodels! But I don't have that model pack yet  :(  . The visibilty of models is only as good as the map you're playing, if you're CTs are all in one uniform they may be well disguised in de_predator for example but not on de_prodigy. You'd have to have a different model for each map and it would have to correspond to everyone elses models to compare them. Far too tricky.

Note: Stopsound only affect the ambience sounds you are hearing when typing the command in the console. Try it out on e.g. de_aztek where there are multiple thunder sounds and crickets sounds.

Mmmm. Doesn't sound too PCS to me. If you're really in a situation where noise is infringing you cant tell all the birds etc. in the jungle to shut up while you listen for the enemy.

I have had a long chat down the pub with doorman about sounds and models, and even if it is not dun on purpose technically it is cheating. The house in Italy is a great example. if you and your team have silenced the radio in the software rather than shoot the bloody thing. this gives you a great advantage in the fact you can bang around as much as you like under cover of that wonderful piece of music. (which I must get on CD for my car  :) ) while the cts can't hear shit.

and as for models. if they decreases your identification time between CT's and T's it's cheat, and if it  increase it. stop it. you will live longer without it :)

I know these aren't used as malicious cheats. but it's about a level playing field

Cheating can be a very subjective thing. It could be argued that ANY changes that gives you an advantage over the enemy is cheating. This could include everything that's already been discussed and dare I say it, buy scripts.

But does this mean that the ADSL/cable player is cheating when playing against a 56k'er? Of course not. So I think we should all take the view that if it's acceptable within the leagues that the clan is involved in, then it's not cheating.

Everything else should result in death by bongo.

How can it be a cheat if its a command written into the code by the developers? If that was the case, wouldn't *any* console variable be classed as a cheat?

The ambience noises dont really bother me, I play CS using some nice hi-fi headphones, and an audigy soundcard with all its various multi-channel and EAX gubbins attatched, and stopsound only kills any sounds you can hear when you use it, if you walk round the corner and some ambience suddenly starts playing, you'll hear it :-/
