We seem to have fundamental differences of opinion Zokkey - It was bloody awful in every sense of the word.  It couldn't make up it's mind on what it wanted to be, much like most every other project David Lynch touches.

Exactly what did Lynch have to do with this film?

I meant touch as in "inspired by" (one of the leads was in Twin Peaks, but that isn't so relevant in context of what we're discussing).  Watching it instantly reminded me at times of Twin Peaks, parts of Blue Velvet, and Mulholland Drive.

Say what you will but it’s nice to watch something that’s a little off beat. To be honest I never saw Twin Peaks, could never really get into it, so the references to Lynch were a little lost on me. Although I can see some similarities to his work after you mentioned it, I never really thought that during the film, probably because I was enjoying it so much.
All the films at the cinema can’t be the same mainstream format that many people find so compelling, and it was nice to see a “horror” film from America that didn’t consist of a bunch of kids going into the woods and getting hacked to death.
Unfortunately due to the nature of this piece of cinematic art it is always going to have more negative than positive reviews because it’s unconventional nature.
So while you're sitting there drooling over the next blockbuster to be released I think I’ll pop down to blockbuster and see what other gems I may have overlooked.

Spotted Dreamcatcher on the shelves last time I was in but:
QuotePlot Summary for
Dreamcatcher (2003)
Four friends sruggling with life meet in the Maine woods for their annual hunting trip. When a stranger stumbles in to their camp disoriented mumbling things about lights in the sky the four friends put in a struggle with a psychotic army colonel and a being that has taken control of one of their minds.
Please tell me it does'nt end up with them being hacked to death.

and Chimpy, get back in here now

Avoid Dreamcatcher like a dose of something nasty - Dingo must have been on the sauce when he recommended this.  It's bloody awful and Freeman deserves far better than this.  I almost switched off when that "shit monster" appeared in the bathroom

I have to agree with Chimpy here. Even from the trailers I thought that it wasn't worth watching, when I saw it I had my worst fears confirmed. It is a truely aweful film.

Thirded.  I had some mate's round when I'd rented that and felt truely embarrassed at having subjected them to such a godawful piece of trash.  Avoid.

I think we have here a summary of the main pre-requisites for a great Dingo "review".  Forget plot, characterisation, emotional depth, social commentary, humour, or cinematography.  Instead grab a copy of "Jason X" and marvel at a Dingo "classic"  <_<

Paul Ross better watch out - he has some competition as a reviewer  ;)

I'm sorry but no. There are far far better examples of the hacking, slashing genre of horror films out there than this piece of drivel.

I give you the following short list.

Hellraiser 1 or 2
Friday the 13th pt 1
Helloween
Cannibal Ferox
Cannibal Holocaust

Even Wrong Turn, which in itself is not a particulaly good film, Its still better than Dreamcatcher.
