Recent events on the CoFR forums and the current debate about Ghostmjr have got me thinking about some of the future problems we might encounter as we grow the TCS community.
We know the Clan element of the dMw has effectively been dropped in favour of the Alpha, Bravo and Charlie squads, but the rest of the CS playing community probably aren't aware of the destinction and just see us as The dMw Clan.
Therefore should any dMw member (Bravo or Charlie) step out of line it will obviously reflect on all of us. In a worse case scenario should a Bravo player get caught cheating on another server we will all to some degree get tarred with the cheating brush. 'If one dmw'er is cheating how many more might be?'
We've added quite a few new (younger) members to our ranks and it's certainly had an effect of the forum and the servers, some good and some bad. Ghostmjr is the most obvious problem but there's also several other new members who tend to post rubbish on the forums and get into trouble in other CS communities (server bans, forum flame wars etc.)
My worry is that Charlie Squad might loose some of it's well deserved reputation due to the antics of some Bravo members, either now or in the future, as we take more and more new blood on.
So my question is would there be any mileage at all in making a greater destinction between community members and match playing members? Would re-establishing the Match playing Clan with a new name help differentiate bewteen the community and the 'Clan'?
In this way we could establish much stricter rules about conduct for those wearing the 'new' tag and be comfortable that any future problems with community members would not reflect on the Clan. This would in turn ensure that the 'Clan' was able to play matches, enter tournaments and maintain it's superb reputation separate from the ever growing TCS community.
Am I right or am I delusional ?
I am with you on this and I know that it was discussed before the change to the current structure. I then suggested a different tag in the line of FodMw (Friend of dMw) but it was voted down for various reasons.
-=[dMwC]=- Could be an alternative. "C" of course for community. It could of course be mistaken with clan. -=[dMwB]=- for Bravo might be another possibility.
[dMw] without the wings might be another way to go.
Changing name of the entire match part of the clan is not an easy solution. It would be easier to change the bravo member tag.
To be honest, whether they are full clan members or not I guess the fact that they wear (part) of our tag may cause us a problem. I think it might be better to work on educating them as to their responsibilities when wearing the tag. If they want to have the tag displayed in a forum group then they need to act accordingly.
My 2p

Will the comments of a member with a dMw tag realy hurt us that much tbh i dont know ?
The biggist reason people wear the tag should be to uphold and promote the dmw ethos of team/fair play.....If they dont do this then we can adress it
Im not keen changing the tag for different levels of member it would mean nothing outside of our comunity ...and it all gets a it too leet

Caught cheating is and easy one......they are out ..... :D

Part of the responsibility of being a community is the maintenance of the clan's sterling image and reputation. Some decisions are simple, if we catch someone cheating for example. Others are more difficult like the GhostMjr issue, but we still deal with them none the less. In my opinion we are big enough that we can take such hits and our reputation will remain intact. We deal with the problem and dMw moves on.

Aha but are we a clan or a community?
Sorry I'll be quiet now
;) (for good measure)
We are a multi-tiered community.
Everyone else thinks we're a clan and we let them. ;)
As you can guess the post in Bravo section about standards eminated from this and other threads. I hope it helps put things straight for peeps and would note that I have already had some positive feedback. For example Benny just sent a PM thanking the Admins for posting it as "it needed saying". Hopefully the clouds will break and sunshine will break through RealSoonNow.
