Sorry for posting WAY off topic on here, but at least 1 of you people seemed quite knowledgeable during the LAN meeting (yes you gandy :roll: ). Basically we've a printer that is hooked upto our work network vis cat5e cable that we wish to share out among all the other computers, but we've somehow managed to lose the book that came with the printer. So if anyone could give me some idea how to go about setting up either the printer or any of the computers attached to the network, it would be greatly appreciated. Oh and dont say use the LPT port on a nearby computer cos thats not an option.

OK. First thing that you forgot to mention is, What printer! :oops:
Then you need to make sure you have the relevant drivers for that printer!
Most come with control software that will be installed on a server (or a machine that you choose if your network is peer-to-peer) This is used to set the printer up and you can then share the printer this way by using standard windows printer sharing.
For more specific advice, more info is needed! ie, what printer, what type of network, what o/s', etc!

Printer:- Xerox Docuprint N17 (postscript is in its name too i think)
Network type?? Erm...Cat5?? 4 pc's, 1 hub, 1 printer, 10 mpbs??
Os's:- 3 have 95, 1 has 98 se (old yeah i know, but my boss is THE tightest person ever invented, hench why im being badgered to do this)

and look at the list. There is a manual there and also a utility called phaserport which appears to be what you need for peer to peer network print sharing. Below is some text from the instructions on this utility.
Information
PhaserPort software enables a Windows 95/98/Me client to print directly to a networked Phaser or DocuPrint printer via TCP/IP (AppSocket or Port 9100). It is intended for printers placed in a peer to peer Windows 95/98/ME network without a network server. PhaserPort requires valid TCP/IP addressing for printing to be successful. You must be able to ping the printer before printing via PhaserPort will work.
