Well, excusing the bad Edwin Starr thread title, the Isreal thread has digressed into religion...a veritable melting pot of trouble waiting to happen. So lets have it in here and keep the Isreal one on topic....ta..
(If someone would be kind enough to move the religious posts over, that'd be nice...ta)
Now you are getting into an area that is one of my pet hates. All my friends never bother asking me about it as I have been known to go on at great length about religion so i'm going to bow out of this thread now.

Well, excusing the bad Queen thread title
I think you mean the mighty Edwin Star, Benny, and his anthemic song "war":
"War, huh, good god, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing"
Classic :)
FGTH's version was much better :narnar:

Sacrilege :o ;)
Can we rename this thread "War who did the best version?";)
Back on topic. I'm afraid I don't see there's very much to discuss. Whatever floats you boat is OK by me. No one has the right to inerfere with another persons religious beliefs. It's a non starter.
Of course we can discuss peoples actions based on their religious beliefs. But that's another matter. Religion has never had, not do I believe it ever will have, a significant detrimental effect on the world. It's our less that perfect interpretation of religion that does all the damage.
(and by religion I assume we mean mainstream rather than 'David Koresh like' mad cults, which are something else entirely)
Suppose what I was thinking was about the current ability for the Muslim faith to be branded as extremist in some circles. This may be completely off target, but why should it bother someone what another person believes.
I don't know of any examples that spring to mind, where me doing something, going about my day, would offend you.
So what I was kinda leaning on is where all the friction comes from. The spark in the Israeli thread around the arabs hating the jews. Why do the more extreme muslims hate the US, is it a globalisation thing or is it pure press marketing?
And who says it's our right to go into other countries, call them babaric for their ways and teach them how to be modern man.....can of worms.
Oooh this is a horrible topic Benny :) Nice one :)
Personally I have absolutely no problem with belief. Whether that be belief in a higher power, science, alien overlords, or the theory of Atlantis. What I do have a problem with is organised religion.
While I would concede that it provides a structure and purpose for many people (more so in the past than now for the western world imo), the cynical part of me just can't buy into it after seeing so many evangelists pleading for donations in the US' "Bible Belt", scandal after scandal in the catholic church, and the rise of fundamentalism.
So gents, any takers, why does the difference of belief lead to violence, I'm sure it isn't condoned in any religion, but why does your believing in Mohammed make me want to kill you? etc....
Is it just an excuse or would I be generally disgusted at your beliefs? OR is it purely cultural, in that lack of development has left some fundamental inability to live and let live?........barbaric? or just behind?
For me, it's largely about inequality and lack of empathy.
