Title: Government Wastage
Post by: Benny on July 08, 2004, 02:42:19 PM
I know some of you sweatys hang around in here....

You guys thing Holyrood is worth it?
Pics here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/picture_gallery/04/magazine_the_new_scottish_parliament/html/1.stm)

To me it is god awful and the story behind it stinks of governmental inability and lack of respect for funding when it isn't coming out of their pockets.

Darn architects. These guys have a certain "vision" of a building in their head. Stuff that "vision" up your ****. Make some decend buildings, not these kind that allways costs way to much and are payed by the people with their taxes. A waste of money!

Now that is truly an awful building.  Looks like it was designed by somebody who played with sticklebricks a little too much as a kid.

What's the story with the funding then?  Is it another thing I'm 'partially' footing the bill for without knowing about?

QuoteInitial plans for the parliament set a price of £10m - £40m, but when the Miralles design was accepted the total leapt to £90m, with a completion date of 2001.

how the hell an u estatemante something to cost between 10-40 million??????
"hey it might cost about 10 million, but be prepared for it to cost 40 million."

thats a sh17 load of money, in the end it cost 90million.......

and they let me and many others go to uni and come out with a dept of £12,000 and creditcard/overdraft of arounds £3,000. (nope i didnt go and piss it all away :dummy: ).

Iv'e jus come back from Edinburgh and to give you an update on the state of things now the bill is expected to be around £410 million. Last time I enquired that was only 20quid less than the whole of Edinburgh (where BB lives and I was brought up). As was mooted before you can spend as much money as you like if you are not accountable, which it seems nobody is. :frusty:  :frusty:

I was in Edinburgh last week and had a great view of this mess from the Dynamic Earth building.  I think the architect and the people who approved this should be put up against a wall and shot.

There doesn't seem to be any coherency in the design, just a mish mash of boxes and curves in all the wrong places.  <_<

The money should have been spent on something beneficial like the health service or public transport. I just can’t imagine how they could have wasted soooo much money on this building (unless they’ve buried it under the foundations). :(

It's real easy:

They're policitans.
They don't give a flying f*$k about you the tax-paying voter.
They do however want a nice comfy office to make themselves feel important.
They know that nobody in their right mind would approve of a £410m new building.
So they agree to tell you it will only cost £40m and people get voted in on that basis.
Once they're in power the rot not just sets in, but entirely dibilitates.
They're politicians. QED.

I think the politicians are the bad guys over there....
