I've resently purchased a origo, USB ADSL Modem Router, with 4 ports.
in installed the softwear to connect to the internet ect, everything was working perfect!
i went away for a few days, to come back to a router that appeard dead...
i swiched it on, the two lan lights came on (as usual) but the internet light was flashing, i waited, and waited... still flashing, i then decided to unistall the device, then reinstall it, still flashing, i checked my old modem and that connected perfect (im useing that atm).
Just wondering wether n e of you guys new anything about them and could give me a helping hand! :D
Does it not have a web front end or some serial diags util that will let you see what it is up to?
Do you have the model number?
some routers do and i repaet do not like being left on all the time! Mayb this might be it altough my netgear is on 24/7 ;) Check connections etc reinstall software if no luck send it back or get a refund! failing that go to the maker for support! Just hope its under warranty ;)
With some past experience, I agree with Ghost..had a linksys that would crap out every 4 or 5 days of continuous uptime. Using a Netgear FVS318 now and it is very stable.
Netgear FR114P been on since I got it 12 months ago. No troubles that weren't instigated by me!
and just to rain on everyones parade:
I have a linksys that has been running 24/7/365 for 2 and a half years!!!!!!
Don't understand why you would have to install software to use a router? Surely you jsut plug it in and connect your PC to it or does ADSL work differently?
Anyway, you can try seeing which side of your router is broken. Do the 4 ports work? i.e. can you use it to create an internal netework? If so then maybe it is the WAN side of things.
Without accurate model number and an accurate descritption of the problem then it is difficult to point you in the right direction.
Silly question but is you internet work. (remove router, and conect with single pc) if the answer is yes. look to see if the router is picking up the dhcp sever.
And just to add my defence of linksys. must be 3 years 24/7
you can try to look for a new firmware version or so.
But then again we need to know more stuff about the router....
I've just swopped out my Linksys router for a Netgear wireless jobby. I did this because my Linksys (BEFSR81) would lock on me occasionally and I wanted to play with 802.11g. Also, the latest firmware for the Linksys (released to plug a security hole) actually stops all Valve games from working. <_<
