Ok no major problem, but would like some more info on it if possible.
My laptop has 2600 amd xp processor, but because its a laptop it has what is called "cpu throttling" .Basically it slows cpu speed down when its not needed to save battery life(This is my take on it anyway ;) ).What I would like to know is how can I get it to run "full bore" when its wired to the mains for folding?I have tried setting it as desktop computer in power management but this has no effect.
Any help would be appreciated. :)
Have you tried looking in the BIOS?
My laptop has a similar capability, but as far as I can tell - it should be running at full whack when it's on mains.
I think Intel call it "Speedstep". I have seen a file (although I don't have it) that allows you to control Speedstep from the desktop. Maybe search Google?
Bios has nothing that can be changed, googled and found lots on what cpu throttling actually is but little on cureing it apart from what I've already tried.I will continue my quest, thx for help lads. :)
You can get what you need here (http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/)
I found that one to ;) thx for looking. Its strange that program shows it running at 1990 yet system properties shows 796?? <_<
The program can detect the speed in 2 ways (it can ask WinXP what it thinks the speed is or it can work the speed out in real time). Have you tried both ways to see what you get?
Yeah they both show 1990,so system properties must be showing wrong info. :eyebrow:
Wouldn't be the first time <_<
have you tried looking at it with SiSoft Sandra or Belarc Advisor to see what they report?
Belarc shows 800 amd xp processor. <_<
Have you run any tests to check how fast it is really running as opposed to what speed is being reported? SiSoft has a CPU Benchmark built in which will let you know how your CPU compares to a range of other CPUs. That, to me, would be the "definitive" answer.
Sandra reports it as 1990,and running cpu bench tests against there xp 2600 shows identical results. ;) So I think we can conclude its just xp takeing the p*** :eyebrow: Thx for help BB
Glad to help :)
