Title: System Build help :)
Post by: Jamoe on July 26, 2004, 10:19:16 PM
I'm building a system for some freinds.

Its a non gaming system. So no fancy graphics cards needed.

They have a budget of between £400-£700. Cheaper the better.

I'm mainly looking for advice for motherboard/CPU combos. Probably go for one with onboard graphics/sound. Also, maybe a cheap case/psu, recommendations welcome.

eeeee-heeeeeh shamon jamoe

i build a fair few for my own business, my personnal fave mobo for non gaming is the abit nf7-m it has built in ge-force 4, gigabit/10/100 lan,6x usb2, 5.1 surround sound and  will take athlon xp, barton (or even a duron if your stuck for cash) cpu's the board is around £60 inc vat from scan.co.uk. i usually stick in 256mb of pc2700 major branded mem, a nice xp 2500 barton cpu(£50) retail pack (with 3yr gaurantee plus amd approved heatsink and fan) also from scan. for monitors check out e-buyer.co.uk they always seem to have more choice (i recently got a neovo 17" tft for £248 inc vat and delivery - decent response times as well 10/15ms) and better prices.
seek-eh and you shall find-eh

well a few cheap items in there but its basically what they want :)

i may checkout those other sites but tbh i dont like splitting the order cause ill end up payng lots of postage rates which will end up negating the cost. (i think ;) )
