Title: DO NOT SWITCH OFF YOUR STEAM
Post by: GhostMjr on August 04, 2004, 08:27:08 PM
anyone whose cs or cz r working r very lucky the updates r completely corrupted! If you restart steam it will corrupt and you won't be able to play i just reinstalled steam to find this out thousnads r plaging the steam forums and the whole network is collpasing! The new updates aren't working and games are ceasing t work! Mine is one of many! What is happening is for some reason steam will not launch the games eg cs or cz and appears with error messages! To retify this will take hours by steam technicians so my advice is to sta clear otherwise your steam will not load your games like mine do not switch your steam off

GhostMjr,

Where exactly are these "thousnads" who "r plaging the steam forums"?  I frequent the Steam forums and I have yet to see them or hear of that it "will take hours by steam technicians" to rectify.  I have however read of some isolated problems which by and large have been fixed in the usual ways.

I have updated, shut down and restarted steam.  I had no problems.  Others have not had this problem tonight either.  When you start steam, you have no choice - it updates itself anyway - so why bother stating "sta clear otherwise your steam will not load your games like mine do not switch your steam off"?

Have you ever considered that your problem might be a wee bit more isolated than you believe?

Don't pour oil on troubled waters, all it does is get you slippery when you go swimming.  Just ask Benny.

Quote  Citizens of the nation: I shall not try to conceal the gravity of the situation that confronts the country, nor the concern of your government in protecting the lives and property of its people. However, I wish to impress upon you â€" private citizens and public officials, all of you â€" the urgent need of calm and resourceful action.
Fortunately, this formidable enemy is still confined to a comparatively small area, and we may place our faith in the military forces to keep them there.
In the meantime placing our faith in God we must continue the performance of our duties each and every one of us, so that we may confront this destructive adversary with a nation united, courageous, and consecrated to the preservation of human supremacy on this earth.
  I thank you.

check the steam forums!
I did before I posted my reply to you.  Hence I can categorically say it is not a worldwide 'do not switch off your steam' type of problem.  It might be that _you_ had a problem, but it is not of the paranoia scale you posted about.  Given that your system has been riddled with virii/trojans etc, it is hardly surprising that it has problems.

I miss the Monitor button - it was nice to see just what Steam was updating this time (as it seems for me it is updating things I don't want).

I can get to it from the systray, but I liked it being in the main window.
