I am truly sorry that I upset you BB with posting more than 5 games that I held dear. I have edited all post so you can go to sleep without anguish of handling numbers larger than 5.

Mmm. TL got me thinking and it's worth a separate thread:
What was the the thing in a particular game that really blew you away - either AI, graphics, setting, whatever? One game one thing? New thread for this here: link (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7271)

Get out, you're all wrong.
Run Baby Run on the speccy IK+ on the Amiga - go on, double splits kick. Bust-a-move - Nothing better for some two player sweaty joypad frantic action Pro Evo 3 Gauntlet in the arcade with your mates, in the service station, on the way to blackpool.

CoD was pants. Utterly horrible tripe. I waited and waited for it to come down in price, grabbed it for £20, and still feel mightily ripped off. It has tiny levels, a very short lifespan (I completed it in a day), and its big selling point of "omg no man faught alone!!" is just an excuse to make up for a lack of excitement by assaulting you with noise. When yu realise it makes absolutely no difference if your squad lives or dies (and given the shoddy AI, dying is much more likely) you see the game for the shallow pretender it really is.
A far better WW2 experience can be found in H&D2, which seems to have been largely ignored by the games buying public, for shame.

Oh yeah, in the arcades: Time Crisis, me and a m8 were so hooked up on it that I've bought a PS2 especially for it with a nice gun and bought the game as first. Also jurassic parc was an excellent one. We didn't stop untill we've finished both games and that took us lots of small change.

A quick pick of 5 that i have played for hours and hours -
1. CS 2. Battle Isle series 3. Age of Empires ( online game only - standalone was pretty ropey ) 4. Sensible Soccer 5. Civilization But there are plenty more....and what makes a good game anyway......it can have ropey graphics but if the gameplay is cracking then you can get hooked. There have been loads of games i've enjoyed over the years that if played now would not measure up because we all expect nice glitzy graphics and sound thesedays and our expectations have changed. Also there are many modern games that are absolute tripe with lovely graphics.

If we are adding arcade games a couple of my favs were Phoenix and Space Harrier especially if it was one of the sit in ones that moved.
Phoenix was one of my favs though I could make my 10p last for ages on that!! Never seen a remake on the pc though which is a shame.

Post by: ChimpBoy on August 17, 2004, 02:39:46 AM QuoteOriginally posted by smilodon@Aug 16 2004, 11:52 AMForgot all about that - what an ace game :) What a perverse pleasure to get your lads into a car and mow down civilians, or get the flamethrower and torch folks at a shopping mall  I can still hear their tortured screams..... Benny - there's a few amiga emulators out there which you should try out. I currently run one and a speccy emulator. Managed to find a copy of the original Double Dragon the other day :) And you can also get the original Frontier Game on the web for free. They released the code several years back for general release. I'm a bit shocked to see so many FPS in peoples lists - for me the best games were always ones where you could meet your mates on a saturday afternoon and play around a console or keyboard, have a few beers, and then head out into town. So many sensi soccer tournaments, 4-way bomberman games, and frantic split screen mario kart sessions were the most fun i ever had with computers. When I first got a speccy me and a few mates used to take it in turns on Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner, and Daley Thompsons Decathlon. FPS never did that for me even if they were online with people I knew (perhaps CS aside) because they lend themselves to you being solitary. Maybe I'm just a social animal ;) And you're all geeks ;)
