No sound is ommited from the speakers anymore and i have tried the plugs sound card and everything! I have had a look inside the case and nothing looks out of place. Check that you haven't got 'mute' ticked in your sound control panel (double-click little speaker icon in tray - if it's there).

If you use a PCI sound card check it is enabled in BIOS.
If your motherboard has onboard sound then remove the PCI soundcard and test speakers with the motherboard sound chip.
If no onboard sound then swap another PCI sound card in to test (eg SB  Live 5.1 is c.£20)
If problem remains then open window to improve ventillation, remove side panel for memento and throw the rest of the DELL out of the window.
When the DELL hits the ground you should hear a "smash" sound, particularly if your monitor is still attached.  This proves your PCI sound card was working as you just managed to get sound from your PC.
Now go buy a new computer :norty:

Checked output settings and all in CS:S? I had to adjust all of it to CSstyle.

I did that once - stripped and rebuilt my mother's computer because we didn't realise she'd got a mute button on her keyboard (and had used it). Oh how we "laughed".

:lmfao: I've done that as well.  Been told my voice comms are a bit muffled.  Immediately suspected a PC problem and quit out of a game to find out what could be causing it.  Only to discover that I hadn't pulled the mic boom down.  D'oh!

I believe the term is 'operator error'...

True, but when that happens (frequently) at least I had sound, it's just that you wouldn't have the pleasure of my dulcet tones
