Frenzy just showed me a movie demo of the Unreal3 Engine.

My jaw hurts where it dropped so quick. :blink:

:unsure: This is getting silly ... what kind of machine do we need to get. PCIe and DDR2 and Dual Xeon seems handy ...

Mmm, dunno what we would need. I was impressed with the very clever way they did the high res - they used a low polygon mesh and applied the difference between that and the high res to allow the machine to work with a low polygon count. Seems very clever so maybe we don't need "too" high end (me crosses fingers and walks off laughing insanely)

Eurogamer: At the low end of the scale, what's the minimum you would need?

Mark Rein: We're pretty much aiming that if you're a real gamer and you want decent performance of this engine, that's pretty much where we want you to start. It doesn't mean that the game won't run on things that are less than that - of course we'll have some fallbacks for the previous generation of video cards and systems that don't have all that power, but it'll be like playing in software today. It's okay and it works and you don't have to return the game but it's not the optimal experience. We believe in that term 'The Way It's Meant To Be Played' and we really want people to have a good experience.

When's this likely to be released?

I won't be "allowed" (by she who must be obeyed ;)  :whistle: ) an upgrade for a while yet :(

The game they are working on just now will be released in 2006. Other games by other software houses but based on the Unreal3 engine "may" be released earlier (late 2005). They did say that the game they are working on just now is NOT Unreal3 but it is based on the Unreal3 Engine and that Unreal3 would follow eventually  <_<

Yup. Buy shares in graphics card companies now. ATi or nVidia it probably don't matter.

BTW. In the interview I mentioned above they are working on the engine for PC and XBox. They wouldn't commit to which platform would launch first  <_<
