This is the sorry tale of a random thought that crossed my mind fleetingly earlier tonight whilst reading the Forums. When I had squished it, I was left with this puzzling question:
Should we issue some 'content advisories' for the 'jokes' section or should we ask posters to self-regulate the content of their postings?
Now please, please, please don't get me wrong here. I swear like a trooper at times and tend to love dirty jokes, so I feel awkward asking this question. But we are in a somewhat hypocritical position in that we have player & admin standards that include a warning about language, and we as admins have probably all issued warnings or 'cool it' messages to people who are being too crude or abusive on the server, yet we condone such language on the forums.
Currently of less relevance is the potential for a legal worry. You never know when some prat (sorry, emotional juvenile) will take out a court case for 'shock and emotional injury', particularly if they are under age 18. Sadly, this type of spurious claim is increasingly common. Case law suggests that any liability for such loss would fall to the content host - Crosswired. I also feel a bit of a hypocritical TANGO because I have TANGO-edited a few posts in the sections that I moderate to remove language that I thought was either too crude or just over-used, but at the same time I regularly read and enjoy the jokes section.
What do you think? Am I over-reacting or becoming overly sensitive in my old age? Should I get another bottle of wine for immediate consumption?

I agree..... If we are going to have a jokes section it either needs to have a warning that rude jokes will be deleted / edited or make it regisered user view only and in the reg screen make some form of disclaimer.
Not wishing to be a board nazi, I think the second is preferrable. But I bow to the wisdom of my elders
I've edited it. On reflection I should've done it when I first saw it.
Sod the flack. On my head be it.
gj Oldie, nothing to be on your head either.
In the future, you may wish to consider adopting the TANGO editing technique. Wherever you remove letters or words, no matter how many, it always gets replaced with TANGO. I like to think it gives it a slightly humourous touch. But I'm probably wrong.
Is that clear or are you thick as shTANGOt?

I PM'd Doorman about a post earlier today and he responded very pleasantly when asked if he could edit the offending item to tone it down. Just thought I'd like to pass back some NICE feedback :D

Was the offending material the half naked lady?????
I appear to have lost that thread could you please let me know where it was so that can re-re-re confirm its offendation.. i may need to look into it a little more in depth just to be sure you understand..
Just a quick one if we are the admins of the server and are expected to edit posts of offending parties should all the new admins be admins of the forums aswell and if we admins are expected to admin with admin toleration and admin impartiallity should we admin ourselves??? to make sure the admin law is upheld to admin standard or admin diplomacy?
OH god im talking admin bollox again.../me slaps smite with wet recently soiled nappy. Hehehe its good to be back
